"We had the ability to house the homeless before the Coronavirus?! Who would have guessed..”
‘All rough sleepers in England should be found a roof over their head by this weekend,’ ministers have said.
Am I the only one who remembers everyone bleating on in agreement with the Tories about how "there’s no magic money tree" in response to Labour's brilliant & fully costed manifesto, yet now services are being funded and people unable to work through the crisis are being subsidised, suddenly no-one gives a shit where that money is coming from.
Rishi Sunak said, “I know that people are worried about losing their jobs, about not being able to pay the rent or mortgage, about not having enough set by for food & bills.. to all those at home right now, anxious about the days ahead, I say this: you will not face this alone.”
But what about the homeless people who have been facing absolutely everything entirely alone because Sunak and his Tory mates left them to die? Does that mean nothing? Selective compassion? Of course..
It’s perhaps worth remembering that one in three working families are just one pay cheque from becoming homeless. And that was in 2016 when odds were more favourable than they are now.
There is clearly more than enough money in this country to re-house ALL those who find themselves in their worst nightmare of losing a roof over their head and the government didn’t need to wait until a pandemic to take action - anything else is a lie.
