I have modelled here a few times and was very excited to be asked to host a studio day. As before precomms were fab and Steve was so helpful on the day,on hand to help with lighting if the photographer was having trouble.

He even kindly bought me lunch!

The art asylum has so much potential and is fast becoming one of my favourite studios.

Highly recommended

I went to the studio when it first opened and it’s been a while but all I can say is wow! It’s becoming an amazing space and still more to come. I like it so much I want to join the syndicate now...... it’s great to also help support steve and I’m looking forward to working there again soon.

Once again everytime i come to the Art Asylum (which is very often), there is another addition/improvement whilst keeping the original quirky features. A great studio with character and a friendly helpful owner.

This was my first (and second) visit to this studio at the new venue. I hosted a studio day and then returned the following day too.

Steve's communication was spot on before my visit and during my time there he was always so helpful, professional and friendly.

The studio itself is a brilliant space to work in, plenty of scope for all types of photography.

The dressing room was perfect too.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this studio and hope to return. Definitely recommended! :D

I shot at the studio as part of a studio day on Saturday. It is a great studio with a massive infinity wall and separate room with great natural light. Steve is a brilliant host and is always willing to assist or give advice when required. I have shot here on many occasions and will continue to do so as it offers a diverse range of shooting options and lighting.

Keira Lavelle

Oh my goshhh!!! Stupid Keira! It is absolutely shameful how late this reference is - but Steve's just so nice that he never pinged me to say "oi! where's my review after taking over my studio for all those days you looney?" X-D

It was a crazy-hectic tour for me, with about 75 million references to leave for photographers that had shot me, hence finally getting through those I then had another tour in the running. But this should not put any shadow at all on the superb service that myself and the photographers who worked with my during my last touring stint in Weymouth received from the studio. It was my first visit back since the studio reopened, and I cannot scream loud enough about how epic a time I had shooting there over lots of completely different shoots covering all kinds of mad stuff! Goodness poor Steve must have surely needed therapy after my visit!

I won't detail each and every shoot, but the kind of images that were created on my last visit ranged from bright and colourful pinup, to crisp low-key bodyscapes, natural light boudoir to totally zany/mad! It didn't matter what insane challenges we threw at Steve - he quite simply could not do enough to help, whether it involved setting up the lights to achieve a specific affect with the image, assembling sets or moving things from one corner of the room - and then back again as and when various props/space was needed to even standing there blowing bloomin' bubbles over and over for one specific shot! If that ain't a dedicated/patient studio owner then I don't know what is! :')

Steve was also so generous in making sure that I was comfortable at all times during my working time at the studio. I was at the studio all day some days over multiple days with back-to-back shoots, and sometimes it was a case of: 5 minutes here/5 minutes there to touch up your makeup/start thinking about the next look etc. (as you do when you are in the flow!) But I swear that studio kettle must have had some complaints when I left! Only Steve was on it the entire time making one cup of green tea after another for me, and even getting me food at one stage! I would never expect such generosity from a studio host/owner and always go along well-prepared for this reason because it's not their responsibility to look after me to such degree, but he really did go that extra mile beyond the usual: keeping the studio warm, having good changing facilities for models, having the studio well kitted out... He was an absolute star and I cannot thank him enough!

The studio itself is a fabulous space! Of course we all had a place in our hearts for the Art Asylum, and I think it's safe to say that many were gutted when the old place closed it's doors... So the fact that it now lives on is really awesome! :D And it does offer a great deal in the realms of epic picture-making: you have all the required (classic) backdrop and lighting gear in one area, and then a superb, gritty natural light space with fabulous wood, big windows and such! It lends itself beautifully to tackle a whole variety of things. I think that was certainly pushed to the limit when I was there too - gosh we had a shopping trolley in the studio at one stage! Which proudly sits on my port as a very popular image as it happens! :D

Hopefully due to be returning soon so watch this space! In the mean time - one colossal recommendation from me!

Thank you so much! I had a wicked time working here over several highly successful shoot sessions. :)

Wow what a fantastic studio and amazing building. Beautiful light, stunning features throughout the old building from the moment you step inside you know it’s going to be a good shoot. Plenty of lighting options, wooden beams and lovely old whitewashed red brick walls infinity cove will ensure you have plenty of choice when shooting. Steve is a brilliant host, knowledgeable, helpful always prepared to assist in any way to ensure you have a fantastic experience at Art Asylum Reloaded. This is going to be one of my favourite places to shoot and if you have not yet visited the studio you should, you will not be disappointed it’s a fab studio.

Good luck with the studio, and look forward to shooting at Art Asylum Reloaded again soon.

I had a great shoot with the lovely Keira Lavelle at Steve’s new studio in Weymouth. The studio is small but crammed full of character, with plenty of natural light and an infinity curve set up for when the sun has gone in! Steve was a brilliant host, constantly offering tea to keep our energy up, and he even popped out to the shops when I realised I had forgotten a vital prop. I would definitely recommend this studio.

Art Asylum is one of those quirky studios that lends itself to being creative. It has a massive infinity wall but also areas that show the age of the building with a wooden panel and plenty of brickwork to use as a backdrop. Steve the owner is very obliging with moving lights and fittings and even assisted me for one of the sets Keira and myself were working on.

I usually use my own Bowens lights when working in a studio (I know how they work) but Steve assured me his own studio lighting was very good.. After using his lights for a four hour session my Bowens will be staying home when I next use Art Asylum. There is a great selection of softboxes and beauty dishes which are available to any body hiring the studio as well as copious amounts of tea/coffee.

Overall I would say Art Asylum is fabulous value for money and I already have plans to use it again.

I had a great first shoot at the almost legendary Art Asylum studio. Although this newer studio isn't the same size as the old one, what more could you want? It has an amazing infinity wall which is great for getting some basic images down and has limitless uses. My favourite area was the natural light room. It was a wonderful bright day and more natural light than you could ever need. Even on a dull day I would imagine you could shoot there with no additional lighting.

Steve was there to help, and show me how things worked, but made himself scarce as the shoot began. He is a very helpful and approachable gentleman, and a new friend on Purple Port. Thank you Steve for all your help.

it was my first time visiting the Art Asylum studio in Weymouth. I was doing an all day studio day there working 1-1 with local photographers. Steve came to meet me at the station and walked me to the studio which was nice since I had never been. First impressions of the studio was that it was nice and warm, and we are talking about the beginning of December so that was good. The white cove he has in the main shooting area is nice and big which is fantastic for me because im 5ft 11, I rarely fit in front of a lot of backdrops. Then there is a fantastic abandoned type looking room with brick walls and beautiful natural light. I shot in there through out the day and they where honestly some of my fav images of the year. The modelling facilities are great too. Nice warm changing room with a big mirror and speakers for me to play my music! mint! Studio owner steve was a lovely guy and easy to get a long with, very chatty and always offering tea / coffee … yes I would recommend to anyone and I will be returning in the summer 2019. Thanks a lot :D

I love this studio!

I've shot with the resident photographer (Rawing waves photography) a lot and weve come a long way and work very well together!

This studio is perfect, it has a white, infinity wall which is perfect for dress up and cosplay and those lighter sets. And a black backdrop which would work really well for the darker sets and for body scapes- the studio has numerous lighting sets available including the new light set which is perfect for bodyscapes!

Anyway, I've proud to announce, we have made it official that I will now be the studio resident model! Thank's to Steve and his studio for all he has done for me, he's helped me come a really long way in such a short time!

I used the studio today and it was awesome. Plenty of space, great selection of lighting and an infinity curve. Which was really cool to try out.

The owner was very welcoming and friendly.

Multiple rooms including the infinity curve white wall room, privacy area for the model when changing and a room with plenty of natural light.

Fantastic. :)

Another great shoot at Art Asylum Reloaded today, my first in just over a year.

Steve is an excellent host and nothing is too much trouble. He provides assistance when required but is also happy to sit back and let you take the lead.

The studio is large and has many different back drops, a large infinitely wall and a great natural light space. The lastest addition of a vintage bath provides another interesting prop.

An excellent and highly recommended studio. Thanks Steve.

A great little studio tucked away in the heart of a pretty Dorset town. Well equipped and warm it has a certain quirkiness about it which I loved.

Loved having my shoot here and will be back in the future.

I had a shoot here yesterday for the first time, it's a lovely studio space, has a massive white wall, some lovely brick walls that add to images, as well as a nice changing room with a mirror and seat for doing makeup. I would definitely use this studio again :)

My first shoot at AAR today and I found it a very pleasant experience. Steve is a great studio manager and allows you to use the space as your own, but is on hand, should you require assistance. The whitewall is MASSIVE and the rustic brickwork, beamed ceiling, natural light window, wooden floorboards add atmosphere to every angle you choose to shoot.

Tea/coffee was free flowing, smokers don't need to walk a mile for a quick puff and there were biscuits a plenty ;)

The equipment levels are very good, too, the 750w bownens heads are a joy to use. I also loved the wind machine; noted a ring light; huge woolen rug; 2 supporting stobe heads; several reflectors and lastolite backdrops; beauty dish; snoot; spill kills and props.

Looking forward to using the space again....very soon.

Thank you, Steve!
