References for Mick Payton Studios - Tuition & Photography Events

I attended a portfolio builder hosted by Mick and featuring Jack Russell. They were joined by three very talented models, Jenny O'Sullivan, Queen Blossom ( Amey) and Emily Jillian.

As always this was a brilliantly structured and executed day, including a fab lunch prepared by Sue.

Mick and Jack divided us togs into two groups, taking turns with all the models, more importantly benifitting from their vast knowledge and experience.

This was my second visit and I can't wait for next Sunday when another fabulous model will be in residence.

There are few who make these events so invaluable.

Another great portfolio builder day at Mick's place - this time with the lovely Helen G. The reason I keep going back for more of these shoots is that they are always so well organised and there are lots of great options for shooting with both natural light and studio lighting. Mick is incredibly easy to work with and is always on hand to offer advice to make sure you come away with brilliant results. And then of course there is the legendary lunch - worth the admission fee on it's own! Highly recommended - thanks Mick.

Amazing photographer, very experienced and captures each image beautifully and at very high quality. He's got a great personality and made the shoot relaxed and fun!

Had an ace workshop hosted by Mick at his home studio. The space to work in is beautiful, a really great studio equipped with tonnes of lighting and a nicely decorated house with soft natural light.

Mick is very fun to work with and really gives quality lighting set ups for photographers to work from, giving endless useful advice and styling as well as the photography element.

Him and his wife provide great hospitality too.

Had a blast and look forward to coming back in October!

another superb day on the Mick Payton portfolio builder day with two excellent models, Angel White and Helen G. Well organised in different internal locations with models working to a high standard through a variety costumes. Sue Kendrick providing the cordon bleu lunch to her usual very high standard. Superb lighting conditions equal excellent images. These studio days are not to be missed.

I had another FANTASTIC workshop at Mick's again on Sunday.

As always it really was a pleasure and I had such a productive and enjoyable day.

Mick is fantastic at organisation and spreads the day out perfectly so that you have suitable breaks and variation of shooting.

He has such a lovely way with him and makes me feel incredibly welcome and appreciated. Mick is superb at teaching and has lots of knowledge.

His house is absolutely stunning and is well equipped with a studio also - so there are plenty of opportunities photographically.

If you're wanting to be well looked after, taking part in a super awesome day of shooting and want to come away with some cracking images - mick is your man!

I always get excited for my days here and can't wait until my next one in December!

I attended a workshop with Mick, to whom I had been very heavily recommended, he proved to be a great teacher and a really good guy.

The model for our session was Jenny O'Sullivan, with whom I had previously shot and enjoyed an absolutely amazing experience. Jenny was just great, clearly having a strong rapport with Mick which really helped to insure the day went very well

Mick was totally hands on, readily fielding every level of question and detail, i came away having learnt a lot and very much wanting to return, to gain more from his vast experience.

My second day at Mick Payton studios was just as awesome as the first. Absolutely love working there, arriving there feels just like home. Mick and Sue are the most welcoming pair (and cant not mention the lovely Max, most photogenic and giant teddybear like dog ever)

The day was so much fun, everyone who attends Mick Paytons workshops are always the loveliest of photographers and Mick is just an amazing host. It was a Dynamic Lighting workshop and he really did show all the different techniques using both natural light, studio lighting and gel lighting. Im soooo happy (as always) with the images and cant wait to use them all.

Highly highly recommended :-D

Been working with Mick a few years now and I always feel so welcome. Mick is so lovely and makes shoots super fun with his top (okay) banter and wide and random variety in music haha. Also a top teacher who really knows his stuff.

The workshops always run so smooth, with a lovely group of photographers and the pictures always turn out amazing.

I recently had yet another successful studio day at Micks and as always he is such a pleasure to stay with and work with. It's an honour if anything. He's an amazing amazing photographer so I always leave with some stunning images for my portfolio and I genuinely look forward to visiting every time. Mick and his partner Sue are perfect hosts and it's like a little getaway at their beautiful home. Plus they now have a new addition pup Zak who is an absolute heart throb. I can't recommend Mick highly enough- one of the best of the best :-)

Mick was very generous in offering for me & Amelia to stay over at his place for a couple of nights during the portfolio builder.

Pre-communication was fantastic and we were both given a clear idea of what styles we would be shooting.

I was made to feel really at ease immediately and was greeted kindly by the friendly giant that is Max the German Shepherd! Mick and Sue were both great company, very accommodating and I had a great laugh.

Mick really looks out for models and ensures we are safe and well looked after, & throughout the day ensured all photographers were happy and was always on hand to help out with any questions and lighting.

Overall it was a really well run day, I had great fun and I believe everyone left very satisfied with a huge variety of images :)

I was psyyyched when Mick asked fellow model Pippa and I alond for a portfolio building day at his home/studio. I love his work, and he exceeded all my expectations.

Mick and Sue are fabulous hosts, welcoming, friendly and super helpful. I really enjoyed their company whilst staying their and the accomodation is just perfect :-)

Micks photography is amazing! Im so happy with what he produced! His pre and post communication is spot on, so we knew exactly what the plan of action was. He made the day ran smoothly and I think everyone who attended the day was as happy as we was :-)

Met Mick for the 1st time today, on his and Jack Russell's portfolio Builder held at Mick's studio.

Instantly got on with Mick, he his one of those people I don't think anybody doesn't get along with him, great laugh, but more importantly, a great mentor/teacher!

We had 2 lovely Models, (Tanya Atherton and Lauren Louise) who gave 100% all day and I think it would be safe to say, everybody on the day will have got some great images, I know I have.

I am back to Mick's studio in July for a model day with the delightful Helen Gibson and I can't wait, she's an awesome model and Mick will no doubt make it fun, yet productive shoot!

I attended my second Portfolio Builder day at Mick's studio last Sunday (co-hosted by Jack Russell), working with Tanya Atherton and Lauren Louise, having also attended the session in February with Serenity and Lily-May.

These are well-attended events and certainly puts you through your paces, both in a studio environment and natural light setting. Unlike the first session in February, I had a bit of a 'mental block' over the natural light images I was capturing, which I should have stopped myself at the event and asked for more help, on top of what was already being offered by both Mick and Jack. However, Mick has been very kindly coaching me (post-event) through image selection, criteria and helping me realise that perfection should not detract from storytelling and atmosphere, which has restored my confidence in what I got from the day and will hopefully translate into what I create in future.

I would recommend these events, for sure.

Again joined Mick and Sophia for a lighting workshop. I can honestly say if you get the chance to attend anything Mick organises I would 100% recommended you jump at the chance.

Not only you'll get great photos, but at the same time you'll enjoy every moment there, having a laugh while you learn at the same time.

Attended two lighting workshops over the weekend at Mick’s, Natural light and studio lighting, Mick had arranged for Sophia Blake to be the model for the two days. Mick has an easy way of imparting knowledge to you, this is backed up with experience, and he gets you to experiment with what he has just shown / taught you.

I enjoyed the two workshops, and I believe all involved on the two workshops came away with superb images, new ways of thinking about the shot and new techniques to work with / expand on.

I’m looking to improve my usage of high speed flash..

I would recommend any of workshops to photographers as there is always new to pickup / learn.

I just need to get more comfortable giving direction to the model.

I have more shoots with the studio in the next month and I’m looking forward to all of them.

What can I say apart from yet another great couple of days working at Mick's place. You are always made to feel very welcome and this weekend was no exception. Mick was always on hand to give great advice and to make sure that everyone got the most out of the two days. We had yet another fantastic model in Sophia Blake but that seems to be par for the course as Mick really knows how to pick them! Great hospitality and another set of brilliant images so I will definitely be going back whenever I can. Highly recommended! Thanks Mick.

Just did another workshop weekend at Mick's. Mick and his wife are both lovely accommodating people. I felt completely at home while staying while i did my studio days. The workshops themselves went great, there was lots of variety in the images and styles we achieved. Mick is a great photographer and knows a lot of useful tips, id recommend any photographers wanting to learn to attend his workshops! and any models to book a shoot!
