Stephanie Pearl Photography is a talented, creative artist and PurplePort photographer from Brixton in London, United Kingdom, with over 10 years of experience. Her fabulous work has been featured many times in our Front Page Image (FPI) Collection.
We absolutely love Stephanie's dark fantasy world and hope you do too!
How would you describe your work and its inspirations?
I would describe my work as melancholic, organic and surreal.
I get inspiration from songs, poetry, stories, the colours I feel with different emotions, Renaissance or contemporary surreal paintings, my incredible photography peers and nature. I'm recently particularly inspired by insects.

What do you love about being a photographer?
The self-expression is the most rewarding part for me. It really is a release of some inextricable energy. Every time I finish an image, it feels like I've ripped a leech from my skin and thrown it away.
There's an old mythological tale that we have demons that whisper creative inspiration into our ears, that our creative outlets are an extension of these demons around us.
By balling up my frustrations and emotions into an image and throwing it into the world, I feel like I have removed a parasite. At least until next time.

What do you look for in a model?
The first thing that sells a model to me is enthusiasm. If they're full to the brim and more of passion, then I'm game.
Otherwise, I try to find creatures that challenge fashion or myself. I look for femininity, androgyny, unusualness or a shared love of aesthetics. I'm generally shooting bald women and women of colour at the moment.
I'm also interested in working with inspiring models with disabilities soon and am in contact with Zebedee management (if you haven't heard of them, then check them out and their phenomenal models).
How has PurplePort helped you?
Purpleport has helped me build my confidence in bringing together large teams for photographic collaboration.
It has also helped me to get on the other side of the camera, which I feel helps my photography in the long run as I understand the limits of the human body more.
