Chris was hosting a portfolio booster shoot with Amie Boulton in a converted barn and luscious sprawling grounds not too far from where I live. Although I had not met Chris before, I have seen much of his work on here and at his studio website. I am aware that he teaches lighting workshops and that worried me a little. There is an old adage that goes 'Those that can't do teach.' Nothing could be further than the truth. It was very clear to me from the moment of my arrival that Chris is a guy who knows his stuff. He had full control of the shoot in a well thought-out and organised way. His teaching ability shone through as he was readily able to cater for all the photographers in attendance with different cameras, lenses, and filters. Writing down the various settings on a white board provided a reference point. And Chris was happy to impart hints and tips throughout the shoot. I probably learned more from Chris about using strobes outdoors in the sun, in this all too brief morning, than anyone has taught me in my years of photography. And all this at a portfolio shoot! I would certainly not hesitate to attend one of Chris' lighting workshops should the opportunity arise in the future. I have a feeling that it would money very well spent. Chris is a natural teacher who engages and informs with a relaxed, confident style. He does not lecture or ridicule. I suspect anyone attending his workshops will come away a lot richer with knowledge for the experience.

I attended Chris's 1960s Portfolio builder with model Amie Boulton. This was the first time I have met Chris and wow what a knowledgeable and inspirational photographer he is. He worked with 4 photographers of mixed ability and as ever different cameras. He guided each of us with approriate camera settings to meet the needs of the equipment we were using. His knowledge is awesome but he treats each photographer with respect. I have captured some awesome images of Amie but I could not have done it without Chris's guidance. Highly recommended and I really hope we can work together again. I have already had a Photo of the Day on another photography site. All I need now is an FPI.

Thank you Chris!

I was in two minds about attending Chris's one light workshop but I'm so glad I did. I like to think I know a bit about lighting but Chris filled in a few gaps and showed me a few new tricks.

Mainly, though, it was useful for confirming and deepening my understanding of light and being able to answer _all_ of my 'what about this?' questions.

Numbers were kept low, the pace was good and the choice of model was perfect. Recommended to anyone with the slightest interest in studio lighting, regardless of skill level.

I attended the Photoshop workshop in Birmingham. Within the tutorial, Chris covered in detail the wide range of material listed in the prospectus for this event. It was delivered in a relaxed but focused style that clearly demonstrates someone who is thoroughly expert in how to get the best from the Adobe Creative Suite. The important aspect for me was the ability to explain workflow, why and how to use certain functionality within the suite but also to provide explanations as to why to be wary of others. Obviously attending the course doesn't make you an expert but it does provide a solid foundation on which to develop and improve your own ability and skills. Very highly recommended. Thank you.

In Search of That Perfect Shot..............

Attended Chris' workshop on editing in PS yesterday. He is very knowledgeable and shared lots of information. Not only explained the method of editing a beauty shot, but told us the 'do' and 'must not' and more importantly the reason why for each choice. Great day Chris thank you :)x Jann.

I attended a 60's style worksop run by Chris at Inspire Studios, Salisbury together with the lovely Amie Boulton as the model. This was the second workshop run by Chris that I have attended. On each occasion Chris has provided the lighting in order that attendees obtain great shots for their portfolio and also go away with their own ideas as regards lighting. To anyone who has not yet attended one of his workshops, I totally recommend you do. You will learn more in a few hours than you will in multiple shoots on your own. The price of the workshops are also great value for money if you are on a budget. I look forward to further workshops being held at Inspire Studios in the future. Cheers Chris and Amie.

I attended Chris's One Light Workshop at Inspire studios.

A solid 4 hours of lighting technique, theory, and demonstration starting with the basic, stretching to the esoteric, and all done with a single strobe. Chris was always attentive and ready to answer questions. I left with knowledge and many sample shots.

Recommended.

10 days touring with this one! 10 days in anyone's company is always going to be challenging even without each of them being extremely long working days but I like a challenge so I was chufty to be the model for a large amount of events up North covering several studios and working with a huge number of photographers.

Safe to say, we smashed it! Chris was at the top of his game for the whole duration, passing on his renowned knowledge to many happy customers. He did a mighty fine job of explaining and demonstrating multiple lighting set ups in great detail and the images that have come out of the events are insane. Chris is a master in my eyes with lighting. Many photographers can light well but his creativity is like no other I’ve come across and something that everyone should encounter. He makes things that shouldn't work, work and with such ease covering so many different styles throughout the tour. Aside from his tutoring, he is an amazing person (Not the grizzly bear that people may assume!) He treated me as his model with up most respect making sure I was happy and comfortable, fed and watered throughout the entire tour and the banter was the highlight. Chris is one of the coolest kidz to work alongside and I feel honoured to have the privilege so regularly and look forward to many more future events. My tag team partner in crime, you rock!

Top Photographer!

Top Tutor!

Top bants!

A huge thank you to Chris Conway for putting on today’s Long exposure Portfolio builder, at MAP studios in Loughborough. As ever the whole event was planned and executed professionally and ran smoothly as ever. I thoroughly enjoyed the shoot and came away with some fabulous images of the awesome model that is, Amie Boulton. I know how much goes into planning the events and although it was the last day of a 10 day tour both Chris and Amie were exhausted, they worked like complete Trojans to the end ! I can not recommend highly enough a group shoot or workshop with Chris Conway. The group shoots give togs time to build up their portfolios with all the light set ups arranged by Chris and the workshops are fantastic for learning all about the lighting set ups from the lighting genius himself! Have a safe trip home with Amie... storm Freya has really kicked in now, take care! See ya next time gorgeous X

Discovered Chris's workshops via a notification from Amie Boulton with whom I had previously worked.

Attended two portfolio builders: 'Modern' and 'Vintage' on consecutive evenings at the amazing Montrose studio in Stockport and having viewed and been impressed by a few images produced by others at the 'Long Exposure' tutorial in Chorley, I was lucky enough to fill the last space on same course at MAP studio in Loughborough.

Chris is a quiet and laid back perfectionist.

Everyone participating in these events has an equal pre-arranged time slot, in strict order as designated by the number on the 'trigger' chosen.

The lighting, studio and location, Chris brings to these events is vastly superior to 'the norm' for hire studios, and can, if required, fire as fast as your camera can record Amies's proven ability to produce stunning different poses in 'nanoseconds'.

The Long Exposure workshop was something I had never previously imagined or conceived. Stunning! - However the techniques employed could seriously damage your landscape images!

Regardless of your experience. Best you watch how Chris lights each set. No Brownie points for just pressing the shutter when he has created something unique for you to shoot and impress with!!!

The second of two (different) shoots hosted by Chris at MAP Studios, Loughborough.

This was a long exposure workshop(?) with the fabulous Amie Jane Boulton as our model.

This was genuinely fun to do and if you’ve never done this, give it a go once !

As I’ve previously said, Chris has a great way of teaching. There’s no bragging. No ego. Just a relaxed style with tonnes of knowledge.

10/10.

Very highly recommend.

I recently did a portfolio builder at Map Studio with Chris Conway and Lyssa Noir and I am so pleased I booked on the session. It was my first time attending an event so I was a little nervous but Chris put me at ease straight away. I was blown away by the lighting he created. They were truly stunning. When I didn’t know something I asked Chris and wasn’t made to feel stupid for not knowing. He helped and understood that I was new to photography.

The model booked on the session, Lyssa Noir posed effortlessly and was just beautiful to photograph.

I was lucky enough to also meet Amie Bolton whilst I was there who also looked after the group by making us feel welcome and offering us cups of tea and coffee.

I can’t wait to edit the images I took, I was so thrilled with what I got. I would highly recommend booking on one of Chris’ events, the results are just amazing! Thanks Chris

I had two shoots booked with Chris at MAP Studios, Loughborough.

This one on the Friday night (1/3/19 and one on the Saturday 2nd)

I absolutely loved both sessions. Two top class models too (Lyssa Noir and Amie Jane Boulton).

Chris has a relaxed, but great style of teaching. Both events were very well organised.

I’d definitely attend more events hosted by Chris and will look out for his future events.

100% recommended.

I can’t thank you enough for the fun portfolio builder you hosted. It’s a treat to see how things are setup and the results possible from them. I wasn’t expecting soo many setups and was totally spoiled. You’ve certainly raised the bar. Keeping my eyes pealed on your next visit.

Thank You again Chris!

I enjoyed going to a portfolio builder last night with Chris and Amie Boulton at the Map Studio. It was a packed evening, with several different lighting setups and looks, which provided a great opportunity for different images. He explained everything carefully and clearly, which gave me a chance to try different things. It was a very useful evening for me - he is definitely recommended by me.

Today was my 1st time shooting with Chris, Originally White Label was doing the Lighting / Fashion portfolio builder, but had issues with work so Chris Kindly stepped in,

From the start to finish Chris was a pleasure to be around and work with, setting up the lighting and showing us what each set up did,

He was happy to answer any questions and share his knowledge, and I walked away with some great images of Amie Boulton,

I hope to work with Chris again in the future and can not recommend him high enough

Thanks for filling in Chris it was much appreciated and a very enjoyable shoot, Ricky

Recently did a long exposure workshop with Chris and Amie at Onyx studios - it was amazing!! Wanted to attend a workshop with Chris since joining PP - a long wait but was not disappointed.

Everything well explained and demonstrated PLUS got a set of my own amazing images across the day.

Would definitely recommend - particularly to fellow photographers in the NW who don't have the sense to be interested

Yesterday I attended one of Chris' workshops (his 'one light' lighting techniques workshop) at Andy Park's Onyx studio in Chorley, Amie Boulton was the model. It was an excellent half-day's further learning experience for me. It was the first time I'd met Chris (and Andy and Amie). Chris' teaching style is friendly and comfortably relaxing but also very organised, very professional and efficient. He demonstrated to us small group of photographers many different one light lighting set ups and gave each of us time enough to shoot one to one with Amie each lighting set up. I found the workshop very rewarding and I've come away with lots of additional good bits of learning to make use of in my own photography 'journey' of shooting portraiture with models. My own preferred style is to shoot with models outdoors on location and I will certainly consider booking Chris another time for an outdoors location 'version' of his excellent training, either a workshop or an assisted one-to-one. I very strongly recommend Chris' workshops for all photographers of whatever level of experience they have. Very highly recommended. Many thanks Chris for the learning I've gained. Hope to see you for further learning.
