The Purple Blog is the prime location on PurplePort for sharing interesting topics, interviews, and updates with our creative community. We want to see fun, informative, engaging, and beautiful content about everything related to the modelling and photography industry.

We love sharing content posted on our blog widely across our social media channels and beyond, meaning it gets seen by thousands of people, both on and off our platform.

The benefits of submitting your content to our blog

Any PurplePort member can create a blog post and submit it to us for approval for the opportunity to be published on our blog. Here are some of the key benefits of sharing your fabulous content on our blog.

Maximise your exposure

Promoting yourself and your brand is one of the most important things you can do. Using our blog to submit your content is a simple and free opportunity to get a juicy slab of self-promotion. Even if you already have your own blog, you can easily use our blog as a place to share your existing content and continue to promote your work.

Free PurplePort VIP subscription

There are lots of opportunities to get PurplePort VIP for free, including submitting your content to our blog! The creator of any blog post that gets published will receive a thank-you gift of free PurplePort VIP (for a determined length of time, depending on the length of the post and other factors).

Inspire your fellow creatives

Submitting your content on our blog is a fantastic opportunity for you to teach others, pass on your knowledge and share your passions with the world. You may inspire others to get creative and try new things, as well as spread positivity and productivity in the community.

Share enriching content that benefits our community

We want to encourage the PurplePort community's learning, teaching and sharing capabilities while at the same time giving our members free ways to promote themselves and their work.

Content posted on our blog is shared widely across our social media when it's published, meaning blog posts meet a certain standard to be published. The term 'smart casual' is a good way to approach writing your own content, meaning well-thought-out, researched, enriching content that you think will improve the experience of others in the PurplePort community.

You can bring your own work, processes, approaches, techniques, helpful suggestions for newbies in the field, etc., to the centre stage.

Some content is better suited elsewhere

If your submission doesn't get approved, it could be because the content is unfinished, lacking in informational value, overly negative, a small-time personal opinion piece, contains poor-quality images, or looks like a casting call.

Not all content is appropriate for the blog, so don't be disheartened if your content doesn't get published. Remember, our thriving Groups on PurplePort could be the best place to share your content.

If you're unsure whether something you want to share is right for the blog, you could create a group post about it first and send a link with your query to Penelope (who manages The Purple Blog and our social media presence).

Key features and recommendations when submitting your content

These are the current features and recommendations for using our blog.

Embedding YouTube videos

You can embed videos (such as YouTube) in your blog post. However, these videos must appear somewhere online; they cannot be uploaded to your blog post.

To embed a video, copy the URL to the video and paste it into your blog post. When you click Save, your video will appear embedded in your post.

Adding photos

Click the Insert/edit image icon to either add images or directly upload them to your blog post. There is no need to copy and paste images into your blog draft.

Tagging People

When you'd like to mention another PurplePort member in your post (e.g. referencing their work/crediting them), use the @ symbol followed by their nickname or display name and then select their name from the list.

To ensure you tag the right person, it's worth double-checking someone's nickname and display name beforehand (as they may not be the same.

Categories

Choose a category for your blog post from the options below:

Title and short description

Each post needs these. Fill them in at the top of the page.

Please use a capital letter for the beginning of each word in the title for consistency with the rest of our posts.

Header images must be suitable for work (SFW)

The header image is the main image that will appear above the title and elsewhere. The dimensions are 1400 x 450px. This image must be SFW so it can be shared on social media pages. Please, no blurry header images.

Blog post hashtags

Tags help others find similarly tagged blog posts. These appear at the bottom of the post.

Make sure that your post has them and that they are relevant. To add a tag, type in the word/s into Post tags and hit the enter key.

Personal and social media links

Don’t forget to mention your website and social media pages; a list at the bottom of the post would be good.

Also, you can turn any highlighted word into a link when you click on the link icon (it looks like a chain) and paste it into your desired URL.

Get permission to use other people’s photos

If you use photos other than your own in your blog post, you must have permission to do so.

Use a word processor for your draft

Writing up your draft in a word processor of your choice will make the process more enjoyable, I recommend using Google Docs.

Always clear formatting when copying and pasting text

When you paste your content to your draft blog, you must highlight all the text and click Clear formatting (at the bottom of the Format drop-down list when creating your blog post). Without doing this, you will likely experience avoidable issues later.

Use appropriate headings

Please use our headings from the drop-down list (we recommend using Heading 2 and Heading 3 for consistency). Appropriate use of headings will make the reader’s experience much more enjoyable.

Use Grammarly

Spellchecking is not something anyone likes to do. Grammarly is a proverbial godsend. It’s free, so please install it.

Proofread your blog post before you submit it for approval

It is essential to proofread your content (at least twice, though ideally more like three or four times). Unfortunately, Grammarly is not perfect (close, though), and things like a sentence making no sense at all can still slip through.

How to submit your content to our blog

To create a new blog post, go to The Purple Blog and click Create (top right of the page).

In the Post details section, you need to:

  • Give your blog post a title
  • Add a short description (200 characters max)
  • Choose a category for your blog post

In the Header Image section, click Update new header to add a header image to your blog post, which should be a Suitable for Work (SFW) image with dimensions 1400 x 450px. This header image is displayed at the top of your blog post and on the main blog page

Lastly, in the Content section, you can add the fabulous content you want to share on our blog. If you need to paste content here, please ensure you select all of the text afterwards and Clear formatting

You can now click Create (bottom right of the page) to save your blog as a draft.

Below are some tips to help you get the most out of creating a blog post:

  • Use headers
  • Add images and videos that you wish to appear in the blog
  • Save often if you're adding things/making lots of changes
  • Proofread for errors with the help of Grammarly
  • Include a list of your own links at the bottom of the blog

Find and edit your saved blog posts

Click Your Blogs to view all blog posts you have created, and from here, you can find blog posts In editing stage that haven't yet been submitted.

To continue working on a blog post, view it and click Edit (bottom right of the page).

When you have finished editing your post, click Save (bottom right of the page) to save your blog as a draft.

How to submit your blog post for approval

When you are ready to submit your blog post to us for approval for publication, view it and click Submit for approval (bottom right of the page). You will receive a notification when your blog has been reviewed.

If we think some changes need to be made before we can publish your blog post, these will be listed in the Revisions section (at the top of your blog post). Once you have made these changes, you can click Submit for approval again.

Published blog posts

When your blog does not need revisions, it will be scheduled to be posted on a specific date (it will most likely not be immediate, as we like to pace our posts). Once your blog post is published, we'll give you a thank-you gift of free PurplePort VIP (for a determined length of time, depending on the length of the post and other factors).
