“A Bird In The Hand Is Worth Two In The Bush” (Poem/Song): Written By Viola Pressley
A bird in the hand is worth two
in the bush, that’s what they say.
Some people listen and understand
this. Some people pay it no mind
and take chances, as they go
about their way.
A bird in the hand is worth two
in the bush. Better to look
before you leap.
Think twice before you risk
losing something you know you
have, something that is surely
yours, by chasing after something
you might have for a little while,
finding that it won’t last
and it won’t be yours for keeps.
A bird in the hand is worth two
in the bush, that’s for sure.
That’s why I decided to settle
down.
I gave up being single, hanging
with the girls and painting the
town.
No more flirting with the fellas.
No more fooling around.
Now that I’m so in love with the
new love that I found.
One who made me change my ways.
One who helped me find my way,
when I was lost and looking for
love, but it seemed love was
nowhere to be found.
When my life was on the downside,
when love never seemed to go right,
he came into my life with his love
and tenderness. Gone were the days
of heartbreak and loneliness.
Now my life was on the upside.
I had someone to love me, someone
to treat me right.
Someone to kiss and hug me,
put their arms around me.
Someone to cuddle up with, who
could keep me warm at night.
Someone who took away all that
was wrong and made things right.
Someone who turned my life around.
Love came knocking on my door.
The kind of love I never had
before. The kind of love that
made me feel safe, made me feel
secure.
The kind of love that’s all I
could ever need, all I could
ever hope for. I’ve got no
reason to go out searching,
no need to look for love or
wait for love to come to me
anymore.
A bird in the hand is worth
two in the bush. That’s why
I’ll never let you go.
I’ll never be the fool to
give up a good thing, especially
with all the magic and wonder
you bring.
You are the reason why I dance.
You are the reason why I sing.
You are my everything and I
love you so.
A bird in the hand is worth
two in the bush, and I’m no fool.
That’s why I make it my business
to treat my baby right.
I’d rather take time to love him
than to fuss and fight.
I choose to take things slow,
play my cards right by keeping
cool.
I don’t ever want to risk losing
his love. Chances are I may not
find another to love me the way
he does. Someone quite like him,
someone who might even love me
half as much.
A bird in the hand is worth two
in the bush. I’ll never let
you get away.
Every time I turn around it’s your
face I see, no matter what direction
I look. I’ll never let you slip away.
You see, I love you. I want you.
I need you. That’s all there is to it.
That’s all I have to say.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the
bush. I’m going to hang onto what I’ve got.
Other guys may make passes at me,
but there is no guarantee they will
ever turn out to be half as great as
the love I have now you see.
The love that I already have may be
all the wonderful things they are not.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the
bush.
When guys whistle and blow kisses
at me as I walk down the street, I pay
them no mind. I have no reason to,
because you’re the one on my mind,
the one who gets my attention and time.
I won’t even look.
With you I know I’ve got the kind of
love that’s more precious, more valuable
than a pot of gold.
With you I know I have something that
won’t easily slip away, I have something I
can grasp, something that I can hold.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
I have all I need right here.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Why waste my time looking to find something
better elsewhere.
Why risk a match that may be made in heaven,
for a match that may be made in hell.
All that glitters is not always gold.
That which starts out as being sweet
can eventually turn sour, that’s what
I was told.
Love may not always be what it seems.
Love can sometimes mislead and deceive.
You can never be too sure of what lies
beneath. Only time will eventually tell.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the
bush. I love you just the way you are.
You don’t have to be rich. You don’t
have to be famous. You don’t have to
be a movie star.
I would never risk losing the love
of my life, a love that means something,
in search of something greater that will
last a short while, eventually leading
to nothing.
Better to have the kind of love that
I know will last, than to waste my time
on a love that holds no guarantees, it
will come and pass.
