I attended a half day 1-2-1 Photoshop session with Iulia yesterday at her new studio in Barnet. She was fantastic! Iulia has a brilliant approach to her work and is able to put across some fairly complex ideas in a really simple and straightforward way. She is incredibly down to earth in her approach and very modest about the fantastic editing talent that she has. If you are looking to improve your Photoshop beauty editing skills, then this is the person for you. Her amazing work speaks for itself.

So, I’ve always been interested in shooting beauty but it’s something I’ve always kind of never really invested much in. I guess for me there are lots of complications with beauty, you need a really stunning model, a competent MUA and a nice solid studio space. I’ve been following Iulia for a few months now and she constantly produces high end images which blow my mind and for someone whose so new it’s awesome.

I like to invest in photography now and then, however I am super picky about workshops and will only part with my monies if I think they have something truly special and I’m going to get great value (like 1 every 6 months if that). The workshop was going to be Foto Smith Studio in Northampton so that was good as it's local, but what really sold it for me was that a really good photographer friend of mine said he attended a one to one and she was incredible. I mean an endorsement from a studio owner and a great photographer is more than enough.

On the day of the shoot Iulia had everything neatly organised. There was a nice setup of chairs and tables, a screen tethered to her MAC and a big screen. She also had a great selection of lunch snacks, sandwiches, drinks and crisps (10 points for effort!). We even received a DVD with actions so we could try them out ourselves.

During the workshop, we started with a nice formal introduction, everyone introduced each other and we spent a little while going over our backgrounds, experience and interests. The format was very structured but also quite laid back. Everyone could ask questions and Iulia was happy to answer questions, and go over the same thing again and again until it finally sunk in.

I thought I was pedantic with detail but Iulia definitely beats me. I swear she has superhuman like powers and can see detail I’ve just not even noticed haha. Iulia broke down her process, how she engages plans ideas, engages models and her entire flow from beginning to end. I think for me I’ve always associated beauty with being something that requires a tonne of investment and truth be told you can achieve a lot with just an 85mm lens, a strobe and a reflector. I’ve been shooting at 135mm for ages now but her beauty shoot reminded me how wonderful shooting at 85mm is.

After shooting she helped her post processes our own, she constantly questioned us making sure we were actively engaging with the tasks. I know it’s so easy to get overwhelmed with workshops but I’m so glad she kept poking me to reinforce the concepts and techniques, for me that’s a great teacher.

So yeah, amazing. If you're new to beauty I highly recommend her, oh and if it’s not clear she is awesome! Ty Iulia for great workshop.

What can I say about Iulia that hasn't been said before?!

I was lucky enough to have a beauty tutorial via Skype with Iulia yesterday and what a pleasure it was. I had thought my retouching was fairly good but Iulia is at a completely different level. She has a wealth of knowledge but keeps her teaching simple. If you wish to better your knowledge, understanding and abilities then you should look no further than this wonderful teacher!

Always wanted to work with Iulia and was well worth the wait. Iulia worked closely alongside her best friend Natalie who was the MUA and both girls were extremely professional, worked impeccably well together and were great fun to work with. I would highly recommend Iulia and were thrilled with my final images. Would definitely work with her again and can't wait for further projects together.

I have waited for some time to meet and learn from the maestro of portrait photography and processing.

Iulia is a delightful lady, patient, knowledgeable and far too modest.

Her artistic eye notices differences in light and dark that, when adjusted, brought the image to life.

The technique was different to what I expected but made so much sense

For me learning is a joy and that was the real pleasure of the day.

I promise to practice and persevere but it was fairly clear that these hands, which may play the classical guitar to a reasonable standard, could destroy an image in seconds with a pen and tablet.

I learnt so much today, more than I think Iulia realised, and for that I thank her very much.

This lady can, and must, go from strength to strength and be treated with the respect her work deserves.

Met up with Iulia for some excellent beauty retouching tuition. Iulia is an amazing tutor, easy to understand and knowledgable. She was very patient as my slow brain struggled to get some things worked out and quickly showed me just how much difference a bit of time spent with photoshop can transform an image into a work of art.

We worked through a couple of images and was interesting to see how they turned out in her hands and mine with my new found knowledge.

I left feeling like i had learnt so much and with Iulia notes, videos and actions safe on the macbook i feel like my post production will be improving hugely in the coming months.

Iulia is a star and if you want to learn how to take our images to the next level then she is the woman to call

I modelled for Iulia's first retouching workshop a couple of weeks ago, but you'd never have guessed she hadn't hosted one before! Iulia's skills speak for themselves but she is also kind, patient and a natural teacher - I could see that all the attendees were very comfortable around her and learnt a lot. I would encourage photographers of all levels to attend one of her workshops and can't recommend her enough to models, as beauty work of Iulia's standard is a great addition to any portfolio.

I was fortunate enough to be able to do a one-to-one editing tutorial with Iulia, and I'm very pleased that I did! Iulia was friendly and welcoming, and tailored her tutorial to exactly what I hoped to cover.

First off, she demonstrated all the techniques I wanted to cover, while I was able to make notes so that I could reproduce them later. She was very clear with everything that she did, was able to explain why she was using one approach rather than another, and explained in more detail when I had further questions (and she didn't dwell on things I was comfortable with already).

After her demonstration, it was my turn to try to reproduce what I'd been taught but on a different image - with her guiding me all the way I was able to actually use what I'd learned, and if I lost my way she pointed me in the right direction.

If you like Iulia's style and would like to learn how she does it, I absolutely recommend one of her tutorial sessions - she is a great teacher as well as being a lovely person!

I've admired Iulia's work from the moment I first saw it. Now I'm fortunate enough to have worked with her.

Iulia arranged some much needed tuition for me. The whole even was very well planned and communicated. Iulia has a very relaxed and friendly style when it comes to tuition. This really did help me settle in to the day and get the most out of it.

On the day we went through everything from pre-shoot preparations, communication with the creative team, lighting, shoot styles, cropping, post-production workflow, and of course post-processing. I cam away with videos, photoshop actions, some killer images, a head full of ideas, and a huge amount of inspiration.

Iulia's work is of the absolute highest standard and I would recommend her workshops and tuition to anybody interested in improving their portraiture and beauty work. She's bloody marvellous.

I worked with Iulia just yesterday and had a super shoot. We worked our way through four different ideas and got the images in the bag very quickly. We were both quite nervous for some reason so laughed a lot about that! ;)

Iulia was also really lovey to work with! She fed me tea and cakes too, yum! ;) The time flew by!

I travelled to to shoot with Julia a week ago and not is she worth it!! Her pictures are just seriously amazing!!

Pre shoot communications where to the T and we knew exactly what we was doing and what we wanted.

Julia is a lovely lovely person and she really knows what she's doing :)

Can't wait to see the photos and thanks again for an amazing shoot I really hope we get to work together again.

So..... after so many attempts, Iulia, I and an amazing team have finally got to shoot!! and guess what, it was bloody fantastic!!! :D

Iulia pre-comms was excellent, we communicated on the ideas really well and have built up a brilliant team. We shot at Iulia's place and she is just as lovely and sweet as I thought she is.

We cracked on with some awesome makeup, we shot non-stop for nearly 4 hours and got some cracking images. Iulia is not just talented and creative but she is also very open-minded to ideas. And OH GOD! Her editing and re-touching skills are just crazily good.

I can't wait to see the rest of the images and really looking forward to the second shoot with her and the team.

And of course, I would highly recommend Iulia to all models and creatives, don't pass on the chance to work with her if you get one :)

Had a great shoot with Iulia last week; she was very professional over our pre communications, friendly and welcoming, when we met. She made me feel very comfortable and gave clear directions while shooting letting me know exactly what she wanted to achieve.

I definitely recommend Iulia and hope to shoot with her again soon! :)
