Using a film camera

In the present circumstances I'd be freaked if anyone laid their grubby hands on anything of mine uninvited, never mind an expensive camera..

F6 are much rarer than F5 (due to huge difference in production I understand) and therefore more expensive. I got a F5 for £250 2 years ago.

The F6 is still in production, it's the only film camera that Nikon manufactures now.

According to someones analysis of serial numbers it seems they are selling around 270 per year. I think that won't do much for availability on ebay at good prices.

I did use a few thousand swear words at him but all he said was it has to have a screen as all cameras have a screen (Total all the gear and defo no idea)

My heart says I should buy 5 rolls of Ektachrome in 120, my head reminds me that I use Ektar for things that won't work as well with digital and that Provia is cheaper and has better dynamic range if I want E6.

Never going back to film, I hate the term analogue. Mainly on health reasons with a respiratory disease the days of spending hours in darkroom are over for me. Then there is the cost of film which I find prohibitive to shoot more than a couple of rolls per shoot and then to spend more time scanning it to digitise it seems counter productive . Having said that my new project with another lockdown approaching is to build a set up that will allow me to scan my negatives and transparencies onto my old Fuji S5 tethered to my laptop

Here's how I did it https://pixl-latr.com/simon-hendy-his-pixl-latr-setup/

It's enabled me to digitise loads over the last few months - and there are now pixl-latr adaptors for 35mm and 120 mounted slides.

I just use a manfrotto clamp (£25) clamped to a post (actually a table leg), a led lightbox panel (£30) and a macro lens (I'm not sure but I think I paid £100). I tether it to my computer and use Smart Shooter 4 (around £50 I think). I use the lomography 120 holder for 120 (£40) .... and a slide copier with the macro lens for 35mm (although I did pay £150 for the Nikon version to go with the D850 as it has a negative mode for this function)

The clamp, macro lens and tethering software are also good for other things

I don’t think that happened.

Stolenfaces SimonHendy Thanks for the advice, I have most of the equipment I need having spent quite a bit of time trawling You Tube for ideas on set ups. Hopefully I will have a smooth running set up in a week or so. Looking through my contact sheets has been interesting the 1970's and 80's fashion and hair styling haven't aged well.

A friend of mine shoots mainly film and wouldn't ever dream of touching anyone's camera uninvited never mind his bronica.

He did a project where the camera was sent to different countries with just one roll of film too.

Get a Minolta Dynax 7 that even has an lcd screen on the back.  Great for confusing people ;-)

I had an MTL3 back when I (and Jesus) was a lad - built like a tank but I was fascinated by the engineering and it got me into photography. Can't imagine the same with today's flimsy plastic entry-level kit.

This might be of interest.

One camera (Nikon F2), one lens (55mm micro-nikkor), one roll of Tri-X each.
