While I design computer software for a living, I am a long-term amateur photographer, having first picked up a camera in the mid/late 1980s - so I very much started out back in the days of film! I became a lot more serious about photography in the early 2000s, completing a series of City & Guilds courses that really helped me progress as a photographer.
I have always mainly shot landscapes and architecture, with a bit of sport thrown in at times, but a few years ago I decided that I wanted to start photographing people, which is why I ended up here.
While I mainly shoot in digital, I have also started using film again, developing my own black and white 35mm, medium format and large format films.
I convert a lot of digital to black and white, but don't generally go in for extensive editing work.
I'm gradually working out what I like - shapes and angles interest me, I like derelict and dilapidated locations. Tattoos are interesting, but I also like simplicity and clarity.
I'm actually quite flattered that one model said she thought all of my shoots looked different to each other - I'll approach each shoot on its own merits rather than trying to apply the same formula every time.
I'll admit to struggling with the creative side (I'm a logic type not a creative, hence my profession), so I do like to work with models who have their own ideas - but I know I can take a good picture.
I'm not hugely active in terms of booking shoots, for various reasons (time, energy, motivation) but do have occasional bursts of inspiration and activity.
If you're lucky, I'll bring the lampshades along!
