Chiaroscuro is a technique used to represent intense light and shadow.
The term 'chiaroscuro' is Italian for contrast in light (chiar) and dark (oscuro), sometimes referred to as 'clair obscur' or 'extreme low key'.
With its origins in the Renaissance period, chiaroscuro has expanded into the photography industry, allowing photographers to create atmosphere and add depth to photos.
