Common FAQs for new members using PurplePort

By Laura SJ FD, written 1493983298

Here are some common FAQs for members (new and existing) using PurplePort.

You can also contact us by creating a support ticket via our Help & Support page if you need any help or advice.

Reset your password

Your nickname or email address can be used to reset your password. You can use your nickname to reset your password if your email address isn't being recognised.

How to reset your password:

  • Go to the (logged-out) homepage and click Log in (top right)
  • Click Forgot your password? and enter your nickname (or your email address)
  • Click Send verification email

A password reset email will be sent to your email address. This email will contain a link you can use to reset your password.

If the password reset email does not arrive:

  • Check your spam/junk folder
  • Add PurplePort to your Safe Sender or Whitelist and reset your password again. Without this, emails from us could be diverted to an incorrect folder, or not arrive at all. The domain or email you need to use is purpleport.com and/or donotreply@purpleport.com. See Adding PurplePort emails to your Safe Senders list for more information about this.

Change the date you started working

The length of experience you have from working in your field (such as modelling, photography, etc) is displayed on your portfolio page in months or years. It's important that you have the correct information here so that others can find you using our Search feature. You can change the length of time displayed on your portfolio page by changing the approximate date you started working via your settings page.

How to change the date you started working:

  • Go to the purple cog (top right) and click Manage your account
  • Click Personal details
  • Under the heading Details, there is a box next to Approximate date you started creating where you can enter the date you started your work
  • Click Update your account

Change your location

It's important that you have the correct location on your portfolio page so that others can find you using our Search feature.

How to change the location on your portfolio page:

  • Go to the purple cog (top right) and click Manage your account
  • Click Personal details
  • Under the heading, Your location type your location into the box (this must be a town or city) and select the location from the drop-down list that appears
  • Click Update your account (bottom of the page)

Make your portfolio visible to members only

This means that non-members (or PurplePort members logged out of their account) cannot see your portfolio. When they visit the URL to your portfolio page, they will see a page that says Members-only page. The content of casting calls you create will be hidden from non-members (your casting calls will appear as Casting calls not found). If you share links to your PurplePort portfolio (e.g. on social media), only other PurplePort members will be able to see the content of those pages.

Search engines won't see your portfolio page if you make your portfolio visible to PurplePort members only. This will prevent search engines from using the information on your portfolio page in their search results (this is not instant and could take a number of weeks).

How to set your portfolio to be visible to (logged in) PurplePort members only:

  • Go to the purple cog (top right) and select Manage your account
  • Click General site settings
  • Under the heading Profile Settings make sure the option for Hide your profile from non-members is ticked
  • Click Save

Change your email address

You can change your email address from your settings page:

  • Go to the purple cog (top right) and click Manage your account
  • Click Personal details
  • Under the heading Details click (Change) next to the word Email
  • Enter your new email address and click Change email

An email will be sent from PurplePort to your new email address asking you to verify this change. Once you've verified your new email address, it will then appear on your PurplePort account.

Manage your email notifications

You can change the email notifications you receive from your settings page:

  • Go to the purple cog (top right) and click Manage your account
  • Click Email notifications
  • Make sure the notifications you would like to receive via email are ticked (and untick the notifications you no longer wish to receive)
  • Click Save email preferences

Log into your account without using your email address

You can log into your account using your nickname (instead of your email address). Your nickname appears in the URL to your portfolio page.

For example, the nickname on the account Laura SJ FD is lsjfd which appears in the URL to their portfolio page https://purpleport.com/portfolio/lsjfd

Improve your reply rate

If your reply rate is low, it means there are messages you need to reply to which are negatively affecting your reply rate.

How to get a 100% reply rate:

PurplePort only takes into account initial (new) messages you have received between 12 months and 7 days ago. This means messages older than 12 months are not counted, and messages received in the last 7 days are not counted. Once you have replied to the initial (new) message, that message will no longer negatively affect your reply rate. Only the initial message you have received (and not responded to) is counted.

For more information about reply rates (including how to hide your reply rate from your account), click the [?] next to the reply rate on your account.

Add a reference

Go to the member’s portfolio you wish to leave a reference for and scroll down to the heading References near the bottom of the page. Click the button on the right-hand side which says Add a reference and a pop-up window will appear asking you the type of reference you can add.

There are three types of reference that you can add:

  1. Cancelled with less than 72hrs notice
  2. Did not show up
  3. Showed up

For the reference Showed up you can also choose to add whether you would recommend this member or not. This is a simple Yes or No option.

See How do I leave a reference? for more information.

Redeem a referral gift

The referral gift is a choice between either 30 days of PurplePort VIP membership or a $5 referral fee, both of which can only be redeemed once that member has signed up and been an active member for 3 months.

  • 30 days of PurplePort VIP membership can be redeemed as soon as the referred member has signed up and been an active member for 3 months.
  • $5 referral fee can be redeemed once you reach a total of $50. An option will then be available to request a transfer of the funds and once this is done we'll transfer it for you.

Once you have chosen which type of referral gift you want, this cannot be changed.

For more information, please check out our article about how you can easily use PurplePort VIP for FREE!.

Upgrade your account

Take a look at How do I upgrade my account? for how to purchase VIP membership.

Deactivate your account (new accounts not yet approved)

If you have created a new (pending) account (which has not been approved) that you no longer wish to continue with, please create a support ticket via our Help & Support page to contact us and request that your account be removed. We will then remove your account from our application process.

Deactivate your account (existing accounts)

There are two types of deactivation: temporary and permanent.

Temporary deactivation (take a break from PurplePort and return in the future)

  • If you deactivate temporarily, you can reactivate your account by logging back in as normal. Accounts can stay temporarily deactivated for an unlimited amount of time.
  • If you have VIP membership and you temporarily deactivate your account, any recurring subscription payments you have will be automatically cancelled when you deactivate your account. If you reactivate your account, you will need to upgrade your account again if you want to continue using VIP membership (see How do I upgrade my account? for more information).

Permanent deactivation (close your account)

  • If you permanently deactivate your account, all images on your account (e.g. your portfolio, albums, etc) are removed forever and you cannot log back into your account.
  • You are welcome to create a new account if you change your mind, and you can even use the same email address again. Please let us know if you decide to create a new account and we can transfer some of the information from your deactivated account to your new account (e.g. references, contents of your inbox, etc).
  • If you have VIP membership and you permanently deactivate your account, any recurring subscription payments you have will be automatically cancelled when you deactivate your account.

How to deactivate your account

  • Go to the purple cog (top right) and click Manage your account
  • From the grey cog (top right) click Deactivate
  • Click the type of deactivation you require (either Temporary or Permanent) and then enter the reason for your deactivation followed by your password
  • Click Deactivate my account
