Today was my first trip to Sowton Studio working with Cornish Model JC and supported by Dave.

Dave took the time to set the lighting up, to explain how everything worked and make changes to capture those epic images. For my first time in a full studio, I couldn't of asked for anything more.

I highly recommend Sowton Studio to all photographers and models of every level of experience.

I had an excellent experience at Sowton Studio on the outskirts of Exeter. Mr. Dave was incredibly friendly and professional, always on hand to answer any questions and offer additional help throughout the shoot. The studio is well-equipped, easy to get to, and provides a great atmosphere for creativity. I’m already looking forward to going back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and welcoming studio space! Thanks Dave you're a wonderful host!

Having visited the studio multiple times, this was our first time hosting an event here and what a joy it was. Dave's pre shoot communications were wonderful, responding to us promptly. We organised a Beauty and Fashion Workshop for five attending photographers, the pair of us, the model and her translator and he didn't flinch at all. His wonderful studio hosted 9 of us for a 5 hour workshop and throughout Dave was on hand for support.

His studio is well equipped with powerful lighting and great modifiers. He's got a spacious venue which comfortably held all attendees and he flitted abut offering help to John and also mingling with the photographers.

We had an absolute blast and would happily return and recommend Sowton to others. Thankyou for a wonderful experience!

Dave at Sowtonstudio very kindly hosted me and team black for a tuition group shoot.

the studio is surprisingly very spacious compared to many home studios, equipped with lights, beautiful backdrops, stunning garden that unfortunately we didnt have the weather for, a lovely bedroom set and even a boho set at the top of the garden, there is so much photographic potential to be had here.

Dave was a great host and made myself , my tutor, and team black and all of the photographers feel so welcome

My second shoot at the studio in Exeter. It was a tuition day with team black events. Dave is on hand constantly looking after everyone and making sure the day ran smoothly. The studio is very clean and tidy and the lighting and backdrops make for amazing photos. There's always a cup of coffee available when you want one and Dave is always happy to explain and help you out when needed. Very good studio. Definitely recommend.

One Bright Spark

I can highly recommend Sowton Studio having visited on numerous occasions and once again Mr Dave was the perfect host with nothing ever being too much trouble. My latest visit was for a Beauty Lighting Workshop run by @teamblack with a beautiful model and other photographers.

Although I can be a bit 'high energy' it never stresses out Mr Dave, and his versatile setting with a range of lighting options, soft boxes etc were able to keep pace with my rapid fire style!

There was plenty of space for us all to relax comfortably and connect with other photographers on the event when not shooting. I find Sowton Studio a lovely chilled environment with a wide range of choices.

I am predominantly a natural light shooter and have also shot natural light in the studio in one of Mr Daves various sets so there is something for everyone.

I have shot many times at this fabulous studio. In fact it is my go to studio. The studio itself is very well equipped and has plenty of set options including a summer house, a boudoir set, and a variety of backdrops.

(Mr) Dave the owner has created a very friendly, welcoming and relaxed environment. Models and togs are always made to feel welcome and at home. The great thing is that no matter what your skill level you can work here, because Dave is a very good tog in his own right and is very generous when it comes to giving advice and sharing his experience. In fact I credit Dave with helping me understand and improve my use of studio lighting.

If you need to hire a studio in or around Exeter then this is the studio to hire! The cost is not only very reasonable it is worth every penny of the cost! In fact I will go as far as to say you will not find a better value, better equipped or more welcoming studio anywhere!

Working at Sowton Studio is always a pleasure!

It truly feels like a little happy place, and this time was no exception.

Dave is a fantastic host, always ready to help with anything needed, and Roxy, his dog, is the sweetest!

The studio itself is exceptionally well equipped, with a beautiful natural-light bedroom, endless backdrop options, and high-quality lighting equipment.

Dave is a wonderful host and I’m more than happy to recommend his space to everyone. Looking forward to returning next year!

Beaux Visages

Last week I attended a duo shoot with Carla Monaco and Irida here. It was my second visit and I found a warm welcome from Dave and his beautiful Labrador plus one other.

Although only a brief shoot, during which I chose to use available light in the bedroom, the studio flash set up and backgrounds are first class. Dave is relaxed, helpful and there to assist as required.

The weather last week prevented any outside shooting but there is ample garden space and attractive local options in the village on more clement days.

I shall definitely return for further shoots and thoroughly recommend Dave and Sowton Studios to all.

Just had another shoot at Mr Dave's (Davy) Sowton Studio. On arrival you always have the offer of a cup of tea or coffee to make you welcomed. The Sowton Studio is well equipped with good lighting, and various backdrops. A boudoir room is available for use. The jewel in the crown in my opinion is the private walled garden and summer house for the photographer's use. Can recommend the Sowton Studio without reservation.

I absolutely love working at Sowton Studio! It’s the perfect spot for filming music videos and capturing promotional photos. The variety of backdrops is fantastic, giving you plenty of options to fit any style or creative vision. The space is well-equipped and makes every shoot a breeze.

On top of that, you're greeted by the studio's beautiful dog, Roxy, who instantly makes you feel at home. The welcoming atmosphere and professionalism make this place my go-to for creative projects. Highly recommend!

Dave welcomed me when I arrived and showed me around. This studio has a lot to offer both outdoor and indoor space. The outdoor space is private. Dave is at hand if advice is needed, Dave makes a lovely cuppa 🙂

I had my first shoot at Sowton Studios a few weeks ago, I was very impressed with the whole set up.

Dave offered me a cup of tea as soon as I arrived and made me feel very welcome.

The room I used was beautifully decorated, with lots of props to use, the room looked on to a beautiful garden, which models and photographers can use. There was a relaxing atmosphere when I arrived and throughout the whole time I was there.

I would certainly use Sowton Studios again without any hesitation.

Once again another shoot at Sowton Studios,as usual welcomed by Dave offered advice and help setting up theme idea of mine,the studio is small but lacks nothing in regard to equipment and lighting, it's small size is a bonus it's more intimate and has a homely feeling helping both model and photographer to gel well together.

This studio and Dave are a real asset to both models and photographers from this part of the country.

Thoroughly recommend.

Shooting regularly at Sowton Studio , while giving each model a reference , I tend to overlook the crucial part the studio plays in the finished results.

Sowton has a wealth of facilities conventional studio with flash, boudoir bedroom with daylight, a totally secluded garden, etc.

Most important of all, Sowton has Dave, genial host on hand to iron out any problems, Dave is a perfectionist, and a wizard with lighting.

I shot at Sowton most recently on a Victoria Summers Studio day and came away with a very pleasing set of images. Leo Cooper.

I had my first shoot with dave today at sowton studio's, he was absolutely lovely and made me feel at ease straight away.

I did a boudoir shoot as I'm plus size and have been feeling very self conscious about my weight as of late and thought doing that style of shoot may boost my confidence and make me feel good again..

Dave helped me feel amazing in my own skin and i started to feel less shy and nervous, he was very kind throughout, his ideas and communication was brilliant and I felt comfortable despite being out of my comfort zone

Would 100% reccomend and would love to work with dave again

Shot at Sowton Studio for the first time. There was a great variety of areas to shoot both inside and out. Dave was on hand to assist with lighting and any technical matters. Highly recommended.

My first shoot in the studio and wasn't disappointed. Dave was on hand all the time to help out with lighting and changing the backdrops and nothing was too much effort for you. The home studio works really well with plenty of natural lighting and an amazing garden with lots of scope for different ideas and a summer house. Definitely will be back for another shoot here especially as Dave makes a good cup of tea.

Having booked a studio day at Sowtonstudio, I was delighted to meet Dave the owner and the dogs! The studios out the way so allows for privacy (though can be a bit tricky to find) and as it’s a home to Dave, affords the luxury of having a bedroom and bathroom and garden set up all naturally. It’s got a good variety of backdrops and lighting equipment and I’m looking forward to booking another day there soon :)

I have had the pleasure of working at Sowton Studio multiple times, and yesterday's photoshoot was yet another great experience. The studio was perfectly set up and ready for us, as always. We made use of various beautiful settings, including the bathroom, bedroom, log cabin, and the garden, which provided a fantastic variety of backdrops for our shoot.

Dave, the host, is consistently friendly and welcoming, making every visit enjoyable. And of course, Roxy the dog adds a lovely, homey touch to the studio.

I highly recommend Sowton Studio for any photoshoot needs.
