I attended a Team Black event at their home to brush up and refresh some of my photographic know how. John was the tutor and on my side of the camera with an inexhaustible supply of suggestions for shooting settings angles and advice about use of light and modifiers. He helped practically with placement and holding of reflectors and repositioning cushions and chairs to help me get various shots. All of this was carried off with a warm friendly and supportive demeanour. It was great to meet and be tutored by John and he and Team Black are highly recommended.

John is brilliant to work with, we've shot together twice now over the last few weeks, and it's been really enjoyable. We've managed to squeeze plenty of looks into our mini shoots, both at his home studio duoing with Angel, and for promotional pictures for our upcoming BDSM duo. I'm really impressed with how efficiently he works, and the quality of his images is incredible. He has a great eye for photography and is incredibly talented, a real ability to photograph models in such a beautiful way.

A true professional and so friendly and easy to work with, I would definitely recommend him to any model, and would be delighted to work with him again in the future!

Some forty years since my last attempt to shoot a portrait portfolio I thought it was time for a refresher. I chose Team Black and from our very first communication I knew that I had picked the correct and very professional outfit for the job.

We started by leading a wide ranging discussion over every concern and topic I had prepared and then added a number of key areas that I had not considered. Of especial interest, never having worked with a professional model before, were the subjects of model etiquette, costs, contracts, shooting styles and individual versus group shoots. John took me through the changes in lighting techniques and ensured that my camera was set to manual on the basis that you will never learn if you leave it to the technology. He is a consumate professional.

They had arranged 5 seperate sessions to cover the ground. Sessions one and two were in the studio with John controlling the lighting and giving the (very) necessary advice. Session three was in a local park using natural, and surprisingly bright sunlight - aided by th use of a reflector. I thought that this would be the easiset session but it was quite difficult framing the shots correctly. Back at the studio there was a session using just an arm chair to show how little room is required to take even a full length portrait. The final session was in the bedroom with mainly natural light streaming in - the whiteness of the bedding made this difficult to handle - although by then we had, I felt, developed a real rapport and it was the best session of the day for me.

They are an amazing team. Angel is a superb model able to strike whatever pose you ask for. She handled all five sessions with so well which made my job so much easier and ensured that I knew what we were trying to achieve through each pose.Together they are warm, genuine and down to earth professionals who love their job. I am delighted to have chosen them.

I left with a large portfolio of photographs which exceeded my wildest expectations and a plan to get back into photography as a hobby.

John came back to Basford Hurst Cottage with Angel Black. It was a pleasure to see John again, he is a complete professional and a great photographer.

Today was my first tuition shoot with John, it will not be the last!

John has a nice relaxed approach which sets you at ease straight away. He has amazing knowledge which he happily passes on to you, we regularly reviewed the images as went along making all the releveant setting adjustments as we go. His eye for detail is fantastic, he has an incredible talent at making beautiful imgaes and a passion that is undeniable, and all of which he is happy to pass on.

Can not recommend working with John and his wife Angel highly enough, this was not a cost but an investment and worth it.

Had a great photo session with John and Angel on Wednesday. John was great to work with; I learned so much about using natural light and studio lighting. John is very patient and good at explaining the set up and any changes that might enhance an image. John had some excellent choices for outdoor shoots and these worked really well with Angel (modelling) and John providing handheld / portable lighting and ideas on how to use existing natural light. A great session, and one that I would thoroughly recommend.

John came to Basford with Angel Black. Whilst he was here he had some spare time due to a model cancellation, and, I was not going to miss that opportunity....!! ;) So I politely asked if he would shoot with me and I was thrilled when he said yes!!

John is a great photographer (as his work on here demonstrates). We worked through about 6 sets in 2 hours, each one slightly different, and John managed to get 'that shot' every time!! I struggled to pick ones for edits as there where so many I was happy with!!!

John provides feedback throughout the shoot, but also allowed me to pose freely, occasionally giving me suggestions for different poses.

I would highly recommend John, he is a delight to work with and I hope to shoot with him again one day!! Thanks John!!

Basford Hurst Cottage Photography Location

John came with Angel Black to accompany her on her two day SOLD OUT studio event here at Basford Hurst Cottage.

John is a true professional and very easy to talk to. Whilst here he had shoots booked with a couple of other models, all of which went incredibly well with every model providing a glowing reference.

We went out for a social meal on the Friday evening and we had a great time and conversation flowed well. John and Angel stayed over night here at Basford and they both left the place immaculate.

John is a really superb photographer (as his images demonstrate). He (and Angel) are welcome back to Basford anytime and I hope to see them again soon!

I had the absolute pleasure of working with John this morning, the pictures we have created are phenomenal, he made me feel extremely comfortable, 4 hours felt like 10 minutes, I had so much fun, very proffessional and lovely guy. can not wait to shoot again in a few weeks! can't wipe the smile off my face 😃

He has set up an amazing neon backdrop to use for our suicide girls shoot and it worked perfectly. He went to so much effort to make sure every picture was perfect and is always a delight to work with. Already talking about booking another shoot.

So this is the second shoot I've had with John and what a shoot. He is such a great photographer and I absolutely love working with him. He's supportive in helping with getting the right angles and to get the best out a pose or style of the shoot and his final images....well they speak for themselves. I will be working every chance I can get with John and if you ever get the chance to...never let it go. He's amazing!!

Had my first ever shoot (of what I hope will be many) with John today.

Precomms were faultless and he was so friendly and welcoming when I arrived at his home.

John is excellent at giving direction and constructing wonderful sets. Seeing the images on the back of the camera has made me very excited and I just know the images are going to be consistent with his beautiful work already here on his portfolio.

Previous one was done in error, had an amazing photoshoot enjoyed every bit of it and I would describe John as a fantastic, professional and made me feel comfortable he has a very kind nature and is extremely good at what he does. I had my first shoot with J Black last week, and I teamed up with Angel for a duo shoot.

J Black showed me his photography prior to the shoot, to which I was amazed by! He really produces some incredible photography.

During the shoot, he communicated well, gave direction if he saw something with potential and was genuinely lovely. I felt fully comfortable throughout, and did up to art nude too.

Within days of the shoot, I received a few edited images which I absolutely love. I can’t wait to work with him again! I highly recommend him to anyone :)

John, what can I say, my shoot with John was an amazing experience. Felt so comfortable the moment I walked in at his home based studio. This has to be one of the shoots I have done that has flown by with the reason of it being so awesome. We had different set ups, and different clothing styles for the day and each and every one of them looked so lovely, and that was just viewing them on the back of the camera. I literally cannot wait to see the final images. I know they will be special. Thank you John for such a great experience. Fully recommend if you haven't worked with him before.

Well what can I say about John, what an amazing shoot we had from start to finish .

I feel we clicked as soon as I walked through the door , and was getting some great images from the get go .

We got so many amazing shots in the short time we had and that just tells you how great he is at hes job .

John and Angel made me feel very comfortable and helped with great instruction and advice .

Would recommend going to John if you want some amazing images created .

I attended the Team Black tutorial on natural light photography today and what I day. I learnt loads from John, camera settings, composition, contrast and angles. All this was made much easier with a perfect model, Angel, who puts you at ease and understands what you are trying to capture.

I haven’t shot portraits for years, so I needed to grab a lesson, refresh, and learn new skills. I highly recommend Team Black, and I left feeling more confident in my ability to capture an outstanding picture and left with some brilliant shots too.
