Andrew Clifton

I'm a professional portrait, commercial and fine-art photographer based a few miles outside Bath - and with in easy travelling range of Bristol, Cardiff, Gloucester, Swindon, Salisbury, Southampton and other locations in the West. I haven't been active on Purpleport for quite some time – partly because I was preoccupied with developing my own business and partly due to the restrictions imposed on us all, since the Spring of 2020.  Now, I'm back – and I have a number of creative projects I'm keen to pursue.

BARELY ALIVE!

This is the title of a creative project I’m currently in the early stages of developing. It will be based on fine-art nude portraiture of both male and female subjects, photographed mainly in natural settings. All participating models will be paid at their standard rates for this level of work, plus reasonable expenses for travel, if necessary – and I'm keen to work with models collaboratively, encouraging their own creative contribution to the project. 

The primary artistic aim of the project is to interpret the title, “barely alive!”, in a positive and liberating way, celebrating the idea and experience of nudity in terms of vitality, sensuality and freedom. My intention is to produce and sell a series of high-quality art prints and photobooks – but that’s not all.  The positive conception of “nakedness” that’ I’m seeking to promote and express can also be used, I think, to draw attention to its exact opposite.

A central objective of this project is to highlight the plight of those who have good reason to feel “barely alive” in a negative sense – whether vulnerable and helpless, oppressed and mistreated, or humiliated and stigmatised. To put this message to practical use, half of all profits arising from the project will be donated to a selection of charities – all of which are concerned, in one way or another, with issues relating to the human body – its health and well-being, and our complex, often fraught, emotional relationship with it.

MODELSTORIES

This is an idea I've been thinking about for some time – to set up a YouTube channel and/or blog about the the world of professional modelling, to be hosted/written/presented by one or more highly experienced models.  It seems to me that for anyone who might be thinking about getting involved in this industry, there is a lack of readily accessible, reliable advice and information about how to make the most of it – and also, how to avoid the many hazards and pitfalls. 

A show like this could feature a wide range of appealing content, including interviews with models and photographers - and maybe even BTS videos shot at actual photo shoots.  The content, of course, would have to be SFW and YouTube-friendly - but I think if it's done well, it could attract a substantial following.   I believe that if this project is approached in the right way, it could sustain itself easily and provide those involved with a steady income - in a variety of ways, of which YouTube ad revenue is by far the smallest! 

I've spoken already to several experienced models who expressed interest, but are currently too busy with ongoing work and projects to take this idea on... But it might suit someone who has the right experience, but either models part-time - or is thinking about retiring from regular modelling work.  So, if this idea appeals to you in any way, please get in touch.
