Ewald Vorberg

I love photography through almost all my life. I started to work with people about 12 years ago, and since then it has become a passion more than ever before. I am still an amateur in the best sense of this word, but I try to develop the best skills I am capable of.

My prime interest is in portraits, sheer and nudes. I work in my own little studio, and things like my new hand painted backdrops make me happy. I do also travel a lot, with destinations in the last three years to several countries in Europe. I do these assignments with short two to three day trips with models I am familiar with. And yes, England and Scotland are on my wishlist, just not feasible this year.

I always look for new ways to express myself. Julia Margaret Cameron is as inspiring to me as Bettina Rheims. I won't get there, but the journey is part of the fun. I often employ techniques which are more elaborate and expensive than digital, but which have a character of their own. I do not hesitate to work with a smartphone, but I am not afraid of historic techniques like collodion wet plates either. I work with infrared as well as cross-processed colour film, with grainy bw film as well as large format sheet film and polaroids. It is somewhat unpredicteable, but if it works out I am happy. It often does, and for safety, there is usually a digital shot.

I love to create images which would not be possible without mutual effort. I am convinced this is feasible only with a respectful yet curious cooperation, and I think I can happily say this is achievable. If you are interested to work with me towards this goal, I will be happy to know.

I live in Freiburg, which is in southern Germany close to the Swiss and French borders. It may seem strange I participate in a network which focuses on the UK, but the Basel airport close to my place has excellent and economical connections to the UK. It is in easy reach from Bristol, London Gatwick or Luton, Manchester and Edinburgh. Check it out.
