City of Lost Souls

One of the bucket-list stops my young daughter & I visited in our 5 country European road trip in our campervan. Towering above the landscape on a rocky outcrop, the silhouette of Craco still stirs the imagination of passers-by. Craco was first settled by the Greeks in the sixth century AD, though tombs dating to the eighth century BC hint at an older incarnation.

The whole city is completely abandoned, the rooms are frozen in time. What I wondered most as we explored is the question 'What made literally every single inhabitant get up and leave and never return???" A little spooky to say the least
