Apathy in the UK?

Are the really apathetic even logged in?

A lack of photography for me usually either means the rest of life got busy, or I’ve got caught up in decision paralysis. I realised during lockdown how much I like people. So, despite appearances, I’m feeling pretty engaged right now!

Withdrawal, not apathy. But gradually getting back to usual schedules. Probably have to give it up later this year, so I need to attack my 'to do' list while I'm still able to.

Orson, you can't give up ! - you're contractually obligated for at least another 30 years !! ;)

Another 30 years? The 'M' in my real name does NOT stand for Methuselah. :)

haha :)

Time and motivation. I had a daughter in July 2020 and when I'm not working, I tend to dedicate most of my time to spending time with her.

I'm also really busy, working a full time job and doing freelance on top of it.

Yep, that's totally understandable - and I think not having the time, at least for me, demotivates because you don't even have the time to think about photography or shooting.

Definitely money. I'm doing my PhD so I'm broke, and bills are higher too now so I just can't justify spending money on shoots.

I do have tf as an option a lot, but trying to fit editing around my work can be just added stress.

There are a load of these similar articles all over the place

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2012/feb/01/top-five-regrets-of-the-dying

Apathy is something you could wish you had tackled when you were young and fit enough rather than wait till it becomes just a regret you can do little about.

Find something / things you enjoy and go out and enjoy them as well as all the things you have to do to stay alive as your clock is ticking and you won't get that time back

Most of the people on the planet wish they were in a better position to live longer and healthier and most try and make the most of what they have got.

Maybe apathy is a function of survival of the fittest - letting you give up is a means of letting someone else survive longer who still has the drive

Time, Mojo (lack of), and general disgruntlement at the "vibe" these days.

A real bad case of "just can't be ar$ed".....

^^ Exactly this. Too many piss-takers, I'd rather go for a walk and shoot the flowers.

I’m actually shooting a bit more than usual as I’ve been brave enough to put up castings. My mental health, always a bit tricky, really suffered during the lockdowns, my already small amount of confidence/self esteem plummeted. Thankfully starting to feel a little better.

I’m also caring less what others think, which feels really good ☺️

Always the best way to be :)

I was hit by a car in August 2018 and left with mobility issues that limit the amount of walking I can do.
I've put so much energy in to learning how to walk again, physiotherapy, and getting back on the bike since then that I feel that I've used it all up.
I'm also a location photographer, rather than a studio guy - so being able to walk is a must.
I need to pull my thumb out of my bum, book a model for half a day and just get on with it ...

Me too..

Still struggling to adapt to a Monday - Friday job after 35 years of shifts and rosters and definitely struggling to adapt to having a quarter of my previous wage , both courtesy of the Pandemic.

Higher priorities include kids, job hunting and trying to maintain interest in continuing to breathe..

Everything is transitory and it'll come back / I'll come back..

I suspect I'm not the only one.

Pre-pandemic, I bought a truckload ( tempted to use another adjective there, but refrained ) of black foam core for a concept shoot I had been harbouring for as long as I can remember. I then bought the extra lighting I needed and some additional props.

I had a couple of models in mind who I felt matched the concept and could bring the shoot idea to life and waited for a freetime window to contact said models to arrange things.

Then bam, the whole covid thing happened pretty much scuppering my plans indefinitely.

Fast forward 2 years later, I've still got the foamcore, still got the extra lighting, still got the props and still harbouring the shoot concept I had - except that now I have zero time to make it happen!

Money ? Time ? Mojo ? Apathy ? - What's the reason you're not shooting at the moment ?

As I pay for my shoots from my own pocket (just like the majority on this or any other website) I arrange my shoots according to my finances.

I have two shoots coming up later in 2022.

Definitely apathy but mostly time. Work is insanely busy and mentally taxing. I really do want to get shooting again though. I keep searching though… glad it isn’t just me, but a shame lots of people feeling the same

I was made redundant during Covid (bless 'em) and decided to set up on my own. It's not been the easiest ride and there's not much in the way of spare time or cash for shooting. Hopefully it will improve but with rising model fees I may find myself in a position that even when there is more time the money may still be an issue.

The last casting I posted on here, which was for fully paid work, got two replies which also doesn't bode well. Pre Covid I could bank on 40+ replies to a similar casting.
