Apathy in the UK?

Coming up with something different to shoot as in a real shoot plan and then finding the right model to shoot with and then finding a date we can secure a studio for, that we are both free on and we both want to work on…i struggle more these days as my fave “go to” models that I used to work with quite regularly have either retired or now are so far away that it makes it almost impossible to work with them and not found any others yet that I’ve developed the same working relationship with.

It all creates small mental blocks…and I find the same in other areas of photography…I’d like to do more street and landscape work but it’s so easy to create little mental blocks as to why not. Don’t think it's unique to the uk and I think bizarrely the pandemic may have almost indoctrinated us to seeing staying at home as the norm and therefore going out is that much more effort, so it has to be that much more special…and if you go out and have a crap day, I think it just reinforces the stay at home feeling (or maybe that’s just me).

I did my first model shoot since September just last weekend and with a model who I’ve wanted to shoot for ages…she was ace, but I was so ring rusty and just found it hard to get back into the flow, but I am actively now looking for other shoots and quite excitingly, someone had just approached me and proposed a TFP shoot, which I am quite tempted by and just aim to talk it through with them over the coming days.

Alan Ewart Alan, very sorry to hear that about your mother - I would find that extremely challenging to cope with - dementia is indeed a terrible thing.

Too much happening in life. Everything over whelming. Also nobody has asked me :-)

Lack of money or models asking for too much money, I keep debating with myself which, though I do enjoy other forms of photography too so not tied to model photography.

I'm not taking any photographs for two reasons.

One, I can't find a model I want to shoot with and two I can't think of anything I want to shoot.

I have felt for some time that I don't know what I'm doing on PP.

I will shoot what I have arranged but then I will draw back and see if anything changes.

Time and motivation. I had a daughter in July 2020 and when I'm not working, I tend to dedicate most of my time to spending time with her.

I'm also really busy, working a full time job and doing freelance on top of it.

I’m actually shooting a bit more than usual as I’ve been brave enough to put up castings. My mental health, always a bit tricky, really suffered during the lockdowns, my already small amount of confidence/self esteem plummeted. Thankfully starting to feel a little better.

I’m also caring less what others think, which feels really good ☺️

I have a lot of free time, for the first time in a long time, just in time for Scottish spring weather to kick in :-)

Withdrawal, not apathy. But gradually getting back to usual schedules. Probably have to give it up later this year, so I need to attack my 'to do' list while I'm still able to.

Orson, you can't give up ! - you're contractually obligated for at least another 30 years !! ;)

Another 30 years? The 'M' in my real name does NOT stand for Methuselah. :)

I am shooting although not as much as I would like and that simply comes down to money

I want to shoot three models together and not one, so its stalemate.

K-arl said, 1652353652

The last three models I contacted wanted £90 per hour x 3, €100 per hour x 2 and £50 per hour x 2, it goes without saying transport costs on top. If the per hour rates don't kill, the travel costs do. The £50 per hour was the one where the travel costs killed. It's my own fault for living where I do, which is why I'm happy to wait until there is a touring model in the area and then pounce. That or I do a tour of the UK myself! :O

Wow they are expensive. Mind you north Netherlands is as you say the main issue. I nevr want to be unreasonable and say 30 ph but in your case the plus travel wold be an issue.
