You are just throwing your talent away.

You get TFP rates, coffee, cake, & beer for Togs' collaboration and curry. 🤣

I suspect that these photographers are either putting up aspirational rates on the basis of ignorance of the market, or perhaps so they can appear professional to new models and seem generous when they ‘reduce’ their rates to TFP?

The internet is full of chancers who post things of £1 value at £100 asking price and hope even one mug falls for it.

True enough :)

Putting rates up and getting paid are two entirely different things, particularly for photographers on modelling sites and the ones getting paid probably aren't getting much or any pay from models, their income will lie elsewhere.

If getting paid is your primary motivation seeking it here may not be the best option.

Well over the top. I am only charging £199 p.h. - but if more than four hours, will bring it down to £198

Rob Stanley muly local band has paid me to shoot them many times so I guess it's networking and making freinds I tries really hard abd they offered me to do it I wouldn't say it's a dead market I know many gig photographers

I'm pleased that you have found a band willing to pay for your services.  However such bands are few and far between and it will not provide you with a self supporting sustainable income no matter how much you network.

The simple fact is that the gig photography landscape has changed dramatically over the last 5 years and nobody wants to pay for something that they can get for free either voluntarily or via a rights grab.

The bar to being a professional photographer that makes a living from photography is set very very high..

In some sectors - in others, I scratch my head that ' some' are getting regular work!

You don't have to look that far on here to see full time ' pros' that haven't even got the basics nailed.

In the part of the market we operated in it was very rare that the photographer or cinematographer didnt know what they were doing budgets were simply too big to take that risk.

Heckklr said, 1652251769

playwithlight I imagine so. I meant grafting commercial photographers / events/ family portraits etc

I should of added I also work in travel 4 days a weel model and run events , the events is where we make anything if anything, even sometimes you break even if you have late cancelations.

We run lighting workshops (myself and owen) teaching creative lighting methods and model days but my local band are pretty loyal so always give me first refusal.

Theres lots of options to try but you need expereince and its hard bloody work doing events and such
