Suggestion: Life Drawing as model work option

That's a great suggestion!

I've passed this onto our Development Team to add in :)

If a model is comfortable posing nude for photographers, why wouldn't he/she be comfortable doing the same for artists with pencil or paintbrush?

Perhaps we should hear from models who have experience at holding poses for life drawing sessions.  From the posts I've seen on here about it, it's not something that all models would want to do.

More interesting as a question is whether there would be sufficient demand for that work option to justify it.

Stuart Brown ... I'm sorry but your comment just shows lack of understanding of the demands of life modelling. It's an entirely different skill.

It's not only 'something that not all models would want to do', it's something not all would be able to do.

The level of demand for life models shouldn't exclude the option of any model making him/herself available for this type of work. (As an aside, when I book a photo model I often offer them the option of sitting for artwork)

Thank you for all the positive responses to my op, and in particular delighted to hear from Laura SJ FD that my suggestion has been passed to the Development Team.

Just a comment for those few who are not in favour or don't see the need, I would strongly agree with those who have emphasised the real difference between posing nude for a photoshoot and posing for a life drawing group.

As someone who has experience of both photoshoots and life drawing I can only say they are very different skills and techniques for a model and while some models may be able to do both types of posing that is by no means the norm. The most capable of photoshoot models may not be physically able to pose for the typical life group timings of 10 to 30 minutes per pse, and often much longer. Similarly there are excellent life models who can hold an elegant pose completely still for 30 minutes who don't photograph well, or have no interest in being photographed nude.

I am delighted that this distinction is being recognised by PP and I'm sure it is a change that will be appreciated by a number of models and artists.

It's also worth mentioning perhaps that current websites catering for life drawing models and artists are fairly poor in function - miles behind PP - and I suspect this change will encourage a number of new members to join this site as well as enabling existing life models on here to separately identify themselves.

art65 Completely agree with you. I don't do nudity in my pictures but I have posed nude for artists and art lessons. They are two different things.

Also, I didn't know that there were people in PP who would be interested in that.

Yes good idea. Though in my own experience there isn't much uptake on PP.

That's a great idea. I would love to pose for life drawing classes and I'm sure many other models would.

Concur.

I know a model who sits nude for drawing, but does not, for sufficient reason, for nude photography. I doubt she is the only one.

If you put artist/painter into your search criteria you might be surprised?

Stuart Brown I don’t offer levels higher than fashion in photography terms, but have been modeling for life drawings for a local artist. I am much more open to sit for drawings/art projects than I am to nude modeling projects - so to me this makes absolut sense as there is a clear distinction between the two, at least as far as I am concerned.

When I get back, I'll edit the article to reflect that.

TO maybe support the idea of this great suggestion..... It was an artist that taught life drawing groups/classes that suggested to me that I had a look at this website. So perhaps. artist/teacher that pointed me in the direction of this website. So perhaps artists are using the site and would benefit here ?

AC Images it would be a positive addition. there is nothing wrong with mentioning that information for the model's side

Just wondering if the PP development team are still progressing with this as it's gone rather quiet.

Can anyone advise please?

It would be a good addition as many life study models won't do photography work. This I learnt from experience. I know several life drawing models but they won't pose nude for photography, not even for the extra money they could earn.
