I'll give it a go... *Braces self*

hehe you don't need to brace!

I love that you have this posted on your portfolio it shows that you are thinking about what you want to produce. It makes me want to chat/work with you creatively.

good, tidy makeup, well thought out colours which work well with her skin tone and eye colour.

I think her makeup is good but I don't think the lighting does her justice because of the shadowy areas on her face and how stark the lighting is. Overall the image is a bit mediocre in my opinion of course.

Again because of the post production the models skin doesn't look great, its as if her pores, freckles etc have been over exaggerated and I'm pretty sure I have seen the model comment on this image somewhere claiming her skin looks awful. Maybe not a good shot for your portfolio as the retouching alters the look of the makeup due to contrast and tonal editing. Maybe re edit her skin to be smooth and reduce the tonal contrast to make her freckles less obvious and just keep the contrast on the rocks/background.

it seems as if the eye shadow on the right is more saturated than the eye shadow on the left. I would correct this to have a more consistent image.

Lovely makeup good use of colours and her skin has been nicely edit.

Very striking I love your mix of eye shadow colours. They work well together. Her lip line on her bottom lip looks a bit harsh to the right, maybe a slight clone just to round it off will make it less noticeable?

Overall your work is to a pretty high standard, you obviously are great at makeup and your are creative with your designs. I love the idea of putting your design process up with your final image too. When you retouch your images try and make sure it doesn't alter the make up too much as you are showing off both your retouching and makeup. If I plan to bring out a models freckles in a shoot I usually ask them beforehand if they mind so I don't upset them with it, maybe chat to the model who you have shot with and added the tonal contrast to and see what she thinks about the image? it's good for professional relations if you can keep her happy =]

I hope my comments help! I don't know much about makeup application so sorry for lack of comment on that but I have picked up on the colour, creativity and tidyness so hope this helps =]

Thanks for the feedback GemmieV!

I agree with everything, it sucks a little that my membership has run out so I can't have that first picture on my port any more...

In reference to the second image, I was told that I should have more examples of 'normal' makeup on my port so that's what that is.

Yeah, I went a little over the top editing the rocky picture... Don't worry about what the model said before though, I have spoken to her and she's not upset with it at all. :) The idea was to go for something gritty but you're certainly right about the way it alters the makeup and perhaps doesn't have a place in my port.

Thanks so much again for the help. :)

Hi Gemmiev
I'm pretty new to model photography and would appreciate your comments on how I can improve on what I do.

If you could fit me in to your critique list I would be very grateful.

Cheers

Hi Stu,

This shot has a lot of negative space that doesn't really do much for the image. I like the angle at which you have shot and think that the model has connected well with the camera. The image itself is underexposed and would benefit from a little adjustment to brighten it up.

This is a really interesting location and the image is nicely framed and exposed. Your model looks a little unsure though and her stomach sits on her waistline which isn't very flattering for her in this image.

This is a very creepy image. The processing works with the theme and her makeup is pretty good. Quite different to the other shoots you have posted in your portfolio too. You have a lot of images from the same shoots up in your portfolio, I usually suggest to people to only keep the best image from a shoot up, enhancing the quality and keeping variety going throughout your portfolio.

Your models skin tone in this image seems very red, her iris is also red is this supposed to be like this? I would advise to edit out where the walls meet behind her head as it is a little distracting and to remove the colour cast.

This shot is well lit and the model connects well with the camera. The only things that bug me about this image are the shadow to her right and the lines in her stomach that aren't very flattering.

If I were you I would just keep this image from the same shoot in your portfolio as I think it is the most flattering to your model and is well framed.

Above: This shot has been exposed for the sky leaving your model underexposed, using a well placed reflector in this shot would have helped to light your model.

This shot is obviously an outtake, would the model use this image confidently in her portfolio? It doesn't show off her modelling skills or the outfit particularly well. I understand what you like about it but I don't think this is a very professional image.

I would suggest working on your colour balancing, some of your images have strange colour casts, a few have a green cast, one being 'Raymond McArthur' and another has a magenta colour cast.

You have shot in some beautiful locations and have worked with some great models. I think you should work on getting your focus, lighting and composition spot on to improve your work.  Narrowing down your portfolio to only one or two of the best images per shoot will help show the variety in your work and the keep the quality up.

I hope this helps

Thanks for taking part.

Having seen the work above, I feel a little out classed but go on, smack me with a wet kipper!

I'm happy to wait for Gem to give my snaps the once over.

Relatively new to PP & have been modelling fir just over a year now. Be interested to see what you think of my work thus far????

Thanks

Hello,

This image is poorly lit and you can't really see your expression much as your hand is covering your face. The angle doesn't show your body off very well either. Not the best image in your portfolio.

Again the lighting isn't great. Your expressions makes you look pained or annoyed and having your fingernail so close to your eye is a little distracting.

An interesting concept. The image itself is nicely composed and you look good in the picture. I maybe would have hidden the next label when making the knots as its a little distracting.

Again you look a little annoyed or pained. Varying your expressions in shoots will help increase the variety throughout the images in your portfolio.

Again your expression is the same. Your chin is pushed down creating rolls underneath it which isn't very flattering for you and your arms are closest to the camera and the hairs have picked up the light which is distracting for the viewer.

This is a good angle for you but the image itself is very poor quality, maybe reproduce it with a professional photographer or someone with a strong portfolio.

I like the energy and playfulness within this image its nicely lit and is a simple effective shot too.

I would suggest working with the best photographers you can who can photograph your curves well with good lighting and composition. Its great that you want to show off your curves, look at the poses Ivory flame and Artemis Fauna produce and make them your own in some full body images, especially if you have some corsets to show off.

Experiment more with your expression as it is the same in the majority of your images.

Good luck and thanks for taking part.

I am still doing this thread, I wrote a whole critique yesterday but lost it when my computer crashed, what with xmas, meeting friends and family, working, preparing the 365 and retouching this thread fits in the gaps when I have time.

Busy busy busy but it's all good. I will get everyone's requests done on here and I have a free day tomorrow so will get stuck in and do some more :D

Thank you for all the helpful points and critiques, I've taken everything in board and had a good spring clean of my portfolio, hopefully picking the stronger images :)

I would be grateful for your thoughts. I am looking to try a style change and challenge myself to bring lightness, joy and beauty to my work in 2013.  I am little stuck with my work at the minute so perhaps learning from where I am will help me concentrate on future work.  Feel free to message me if it helps

thanks...

I think mol's unique perspective of an image would be good to have him as a critique.
