I have been serious about photography for over 30 years, initially only photographing static subjects like buildings, flowers and landscapes.

Since I joined a camera club a few years ago I have developed an interest in more challenging subjects like birds in flight, motocross, motor sport and aircraft in flight.

In the middle of 2021 I started photographing models. This is challenging in a different way as I have to think about poses, clothing, props, a shoot plan and location. However all of the models I have worked with are good at posing independently, as well as taking direction, and I think that combining ideas from both of us makes for a more successful shoot.

I have visited several studios and always found the studio owners to be very helpful, especially in setting up lighting as I am still trying to improve my knowledge in this area.

Fortunately I have reached the stage where I don't always need to have a detailed shoot plan as I can call on my experience, as well as that of the model, in order to find enough ideas for the shoot. In fact I usually find that I run out of time, rather than ideas.

I am usually up for a challenge in doing shoots which I have never tried before as it keeps photography fresh for me, and I do like trying different styles to give variety to my portfolio.
