References for Silkwood Studio

First, if one does not know the 'local' area, studios location?

It is best one approaches via M62, Jct 26, than come through the town.

Or ask a local postman where Law Street is, as I did when I went there?

Silkwood is on a floor of a business unit in a former factory building.

There is space: horizontal, vertical and light: external and internal.

The neighbouring buildings, roof's can provide out of focus backdrops.

Some features can be used as props, the pillars supporting the ceiling.

Some 'loft' based studios or studios that have 'loft' areas available, have either specific constructed sets or open space?

Here definitions are minimal, one can move, create from what is there.

Karen was present when I was there: support/advise, when, if needed.

Communication before hand, on the day was not a problem.

I had a fantastic first shoot with Karen this week we got along really well and created some stunning images together Karen is a lovely lady super chatty Im a great host thanks for supplying me with tea and having me round can't wait to be back in the future highly recommend and can't wait to see the images :D

I've used Silkwood a few times now, sorry, I didn't realise I hadn't left a reference until now!

Silkwood is a fantastic creative space with everything you could wish for - a huge area with lots of lighting, sets and props to use.

Very friendly helpful owners and mentors, thanks for your advice Karen. I'll be back again soon.

Silkwood is easy to get to from any major west yorkshire city, just off j26 chain bar M62

I can highly recommend the studio, especially their regular themed model evening sessions.

just had my second group shoot at the fantastic silkwood studio. It's very spacious and has a large variety of different lights and back grounds. Loved the shoot, all the photographers were very friendly. Karen was very helpful and accommodating.

Would 100% recommend to any Model or photographer.

I shot the other day for the first time at Silkwood with Kasia. I wanted to shoot available light with a bit of fill in from modelling lights. Karen was very helpful and accommodating with both the pre-comms and on the day.

We had a very productive shoot and found so many micro-locations to shoot in.

I unfortunately found the biscuits and coffee that Karen supplied very good and so my diet went completely to pot.

Lots of areas. seating, backgrounds and available light.

I recommend the studio to all models and photographers.

I have just been to my second group shoot organised by Silkwood Studio, both were well organised with keen and enthusiastic models, there is a wide range of setting possible and a good selection of lights and equipment. Lots of support and suggestions, if you are a photographer wanting some experience of using a studio these shoots are a great introduction.

I had a great first shoot at Silkwood Studio last weekend. It is a brilliant space with high ceilings, large windows with great natural light and multiple backdrops with props. From a models perspective it was great to find such a large space that also has heating, as so many of the warehouse style studios can be freezing!!!

The studio also has a great dressing room and makeup area, with plenty of room to arrange outfits and also relax in between sets. There is also a full kitchen and cups of tea were regularly offered which was perfect!

I would definitely use this studio again and recommend it for future shoots.

Had another great shoot here today, Karen as helpful as ever setting lights finding everything i needed ,giving advice and even let me use her camera to see the difference in images,as looking at changing cameras. the studio is well equipped and refreshments through the shoot.

I used Silkwood for the first time this week as part of a test shoot I was doing with a Leeds based agency. The communication in advance was great, with clear directions provided to help find them.

I was welcomed warmly, offered a coffee and had a chat about what I needed for the shoot. As I was comfortable with setting up the lights, I was left to do my own thing, but always new help was on hand if needed.

The studio is a great space and reminds me of an old warehouse apartment conversion. ( similar to friends for those that watched it ). They have a great white infinity curve, a lounge backdrop with a large variet of props, multiple backdrops and even a swing from the ceiling and trapeze bar.

The thing that impressed me most though was the lighting available. You often get to a studio that says they have plenty of lighting and they have 2 lights with just a couple of modifiers that you have to continually change. That certainly isn't the case here. From memory, there were at least 6 different heads and many more modifiers. Whether it was strip modifiers with eggshells, various size of hexagons, beauty dishes and snoots, I was able to work various lighting sets without having to change heads or move them around.

Silkwood is a new studio, but run by experienced studio owners and photographers and it shows. Nothing was too much trouble, the studio is set up great and they appreciate feedback regarding things that may improve the space.

Highly highly recommended and I have certainly found my base when shoot in the area again.
