Re-creating a memory . . .

I was cycling across northern Thailand in the summer of 2011, had got lost and so had cycled far more than I had intended that day. My legs were cramping and it was nearly dark when I arrived at the small village where I was planning to overnight.

On the side of the road an entrepreneurial Thai lady - probably in her late 40's but slim and athletic looking - had set up her massage business. I could not resist. I was told to lie face down and the rest is in my imagination, based on the sensory feedback I experienced.

Other than that, I have two distinct memories of the occasion. The first is that it started raining heavily while i was there with a few splashes of warm rain water hitting my skin. The second was that when I glanced up all I could see were those exquisitely decorated red shoes . . .
