Rebecca's luscious pose here suggested my title which immediately brought to mind the wonderful Pulitzer Prize winning book by Stephen Greenblatt of the same title. There's kind of a closed loop here as the book's Subtitle is "How the World Became Modern" and it is about the swerve of European history that the rediscovery of Lucretius's lost poem "On the Nature of Things," influenced, sparking Humanism and Natural Law against the world view of the Catholic Church. Greenblatt's book is an enthralling work of scholarship I highly recommend. And the pursuit of Art Nude Photography certainly epitomizes modernity.
Besides such a pleasurable association, this shoot with Rebecca was memorable for me for two reasons. I was still a neophyte, only my 5th art nude shoot, and this was my first hotel shoot, for which I could not entirely shake the feeling of something illicit. The evening before she joined my wife and I for dinner and conversation at our central Oslo apartment just several blocks away. It was the first chance my wife had to meet and talk to art models and finding out just how interesting and engaging they can be. Here was Rebecca, a double major Cambridge scholar--linguistics and philosophy if I recall--easing any lingering concerns she might have had about my new found retirement pursuits. Thank you Rebecca!
