Taken during our Winter Nudes in the Landscape Experience in freezing conditions, high winds and rain.
Siberians were originally imported to Alaska as sled dogs from the Chukchi Peninsula in Siberia, where they had been used for centuries as pack dogs by the Chukchi people. They are the oldest breed of domesticated dog alive today.
Gunnar (Sliver Nanook) is a pure bred Siberian, who can trace his pedigree back to the original founders of the breed, owned by Leonhard Seppala. His multi-great grandparents from several lines include three of the dogs from Seppala's team in the Great Race of Mercy in 1925, including the two lead dogs, Togo and Fritz and the co-lead of Gunnar Kassen's sled, Fox.
Rachelle is a pure bred Smurf and can trace her lineage back to Father Abraham :-)
