Image for a forum post, to show how I work. My usual palette for everything is Ivory Black, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber, Alizarin Crimson, Yellow Ochre and Titanium White (for different images I may introduce some Cadmium Yellow Pale and Cadmium Red). I've only just started using odourless thinners instead of turps and found it to be very good. I use Liquin as my medium, but I also like W&N's Drying Oil. I work in the old way (keeping my paint quite thin). I block in the entire canvas with crude undercoat colours and then put more layers on top of them, refining as I go.
