"Babylon the Great", (oil on panel - 3ft. x 2ft.)

Commissioned illustration "Babylon the Great, Mother of Harlots." This was based a photo of my model, sat on a small table in my back garden. I made a rough model of a 7-headed "beast" in Plasticine and then photographed it in the same place and in the same light, so that the shadows fell in the same way. The background was constructed from various photos of cities and a web search for the wilderness-like parts of Greece (John, being at the time, a prisoner of the Romans on the Greek Island of Patmos). Revelations is a book of riddles, that have more than one explanation (depending on who you ask) but mine's not to reason why, mine's just to do as I'm told (for a small fee - teehee!).
