For some reason, not many on the beach the day it was shot (14 January 2016).

Awarded an FPI early in the morning of Easter Monday (28 March) 2016.

As I sit here, it's dark outside, and Storm Katie is howling outside. There's an occasional crash as roof tiles - I hope they are not mine - collide with the fence just outside my window. I'm awake now! I might as well use the time adding some technical notes, for the photographers. This is a fairly traditional shot that would have worked on slide film.

Kit: Tripod, wide angle lens (12mm; equivalent to 24mm in old money). ISO 200, f/11 and 25s exposure, assisted by a 10-stop 'big stopper' ND filter and a polarising filter. I exposed to the right, then processed the exposure as slightly underexposed, as if I were using a slide film. (I told you it was a traditional shot.) And a camera (OMD EM5 mk1).

Almost all the processing was in Lightroom. There was a small, white hut at the end of the row that had also caught the sunlight. It appeared as a tiny bright blob, so I patched that out in a layer in Photoshop. Otherwise, this is a straight shot, with nothing significant added or taken away.

The broken cloud was lighting up areas intermittently, and it was a lucky judgement call that lit the huts for this shot. The eight other exposures missed the lighting.
