Optima Photography

I attended a portrait workshop at EPW and found it a pleasant and worthwhile experience. Although I have a good knowledge of the subject I accept that there is always more to learn and this was certainly the case on this occasion.

The small group size - max 3, means that these workshops are really personal and not far short of one to one training.

David is a first class workshop leader and a great host. He was well prepared and so no time was wasted. Good takeaway notes, Actions etc. too.

I've really admired David's work for a while so I was delighted when he approached me to model for a workshop at his beautiful home near Bath. I was very well cared-for throughout the day (including a wonderful lunch made by his lovely wife!) and I found David to be chatty, welcoming and relaxed. His method of teaching is really hands-on and he was happy to answer any and all questions the attendees had. We worked through a variety of looks in the time and produced loads of really stunning images. I thoroughly enjoyed working with David and would be delighted to do so again in the future. Highly recommended!

Synergy Photoworks

I attended a fine art portraiture workshop - or should I say masterclass - last week at David's small but perfectly formed studio near Bath.

If, like me, you have ever bemoaned not having enough space to work in, just take a look at what David manages to achieve in a space no more than the size of a modest living room. David has obviously perfected his signature fine art style and as I want to offer something similar at my own studio I was keen to gain a better insight into David's methods. Whilst much of it was familiar to me and the lighting techniques are deceptively simple and relatively easy to reproduce, dig beneath the surface and it soon becomes apparent that David has what I can only describe as the eye and soul of a true artist, which elevates his work above and beyond mere technical processes. Little wonder his work is in high demand. I didn't fully realise how much I'd picked up until I started to apply the techniques to my own work recently.

If you are thinking about attending one of David's workshops, don't hesitate just book it. You'll have a great day in a relaxed friendly environment with a top model and a welcoming and generous host and workshop leader who will not only share his knowledge and experience freely with you during the workshop but also provide support and encouragement afterwards as part of the overall package. You'd be hard pushed to find better value for your money.

This is the second workshop I’ve attended with David. My first reference for him and English Photoworks couldn’t have been any better, and happy to say this will be no different. I love his style of photography, his gentle and encouraging teaching style, the models he works with (this time Carla Monaco - wow) and his lovely wife even served a lovely lunch. I left again feeling totally inspired. 10/10 (plus an extra point for his taste in music!!) :-)

I recently had the pleasure of modelling at David's workshop. He is a pro through and through, precommunications were great, the shoot was relaxed and so enjoyable. The cherry on top of an already delicious cake was that David provided me with some absolutely gorgeous edits. 10/10, highly recommend. Thank you David!

Excellent! - I attended a workshop run by David at the weekend. Directions were good and the workshop started on time. Although I have considerably less experience than the other attendees David‘s approach made me feel at ease and confident. The workshop was well organised and the pace was just right. He readily imparts the skills and knowledge he has acquired as a professional to help develop the participants. The model, Olivia, was excellent and very easy to work with and I came away with some great photos.

For me the 6 hour workshop was quite inspirational and I feel it will make a difference to my approach.

I would recommend this workshop to anyone who wants to learn and have practical experience of fine art/low key photography.

I attended one of Davids Fine Art Workshops yesterday, as I really liked the style of photography he produces and are always up for learning different techniques to add to my own skillset.

David provides really great communication both prior to the course and afterwards when he gives you some additional information (via download) to reinforce the information received on the day. The day itself was very relaxed, primarily due to Davids teaching style, and flows seemlessly from one set to the next.

We had a great model which was perfect for the look we wanted to achieve and the day flew by! Everyone had ample opportunity to shoot numerous times, including changing props (of which there are many) during the lighting sets.

Overall I had a superb day, learnt lots and most of all came away with both knowledge and more than a few good pics! Cant recommend this enough to people looking to emulate this style.

I had a really great time at Davids workshop yesterday.

David was very easy to work with, good communication skills and nothing was too much trouble.

He gave us ample time to work with the model, Olivia, and she was wonderful.

The day just flew by and I went home with some really good pictures.

I would definitely recommend David's workshops and would be happy to attend another one.

It was clear David really enjoys his work, and his passion for photography really was evident.

Added to the above, I learnt a lot from the day.

Highly recommended.

Recently we had our first photo shoot with David.

Professional and very experienced in work.

Very friendly, fun, incredibly enjoyable in communication.

We worked in professional home studio with all the necessary equipment for stunning shots.

He is incredibly pleasant and tactful during the process. Gives freedom in action during shooting and listens to the suggestions of the model.

The time of our shooting flew over so quickly.

I can not wait for the moment when I can see the amazing results of our work.

I was delighted when David asked me to model for his fine art photography workshop. After admiring his work on Instagram for a few months, I was super excited for the event!

I have modeled on many workshops before but some of Davids tips and tricks are things I never knew!

The workshop was hugely enjoyable with a small group of positive people eager to learn, and we were all given a lovely lunch too!

And of course the pictures speak for themselves...pure class!

David is the consummate professional, not only is he a fabulous photographer, but also a great teacher. I came away from Davids workshop with the knowledge required to try to emulate some of his work, however I am not sure I quite have the required skills as yet. David supplies course notes, the presentation itself and also useful editing PS actions and textures. All of this takes place in Davids fabulous studio, full of quality equipment and fantastic props. Throw in a fabulous 3 course lunch, courtesy of Davids wife, and the chance to meet the family of 3 dogs and what more could you ask for. David is a friendly, patient and encouraging teacher and I urge anyone with an interest in this genre of photography to attend. Thanks David and the rest of team Shoukry.

Attended a fine art photography workshop with David. Very impressed, learnt loads David doesn't hold anything back, willing to help you get results as close to his own work possible, he talks you through everything at a steady pace and the day flew by.

Recommended for anybody that wants to learn some new techniques.

Firstly - good studio (some amazing piece of furniture, backdrops- all well maintained and available immediately), secondly - great directions, light set ups, good collaboration. David is an accomplished teacher in all things photography and this is the second time I have had the pleasure to work with him at one of his organised fine art workshops at his amazing perfectly equipped home studio. The model Carla was excellent to work with and settled me in to only my second studio shoot with ease. Both David and Carla were consumate professionals and friendly in the same degree.

I attended a Fine Art Portraiture workshop with English Photoworks yesterday and found the course to be very professionally run by David and the content very useful indeed. The day was well organised but also relaxed and not too rushed. His studio is compact and well equipped and David is not just a great photographer but also a patient and very capable teacher. The model for the day was the stunning Carla Monaco so we all came away with some superb images to add to our portfolios as well as some new skills that I am hoping to put to good use. Thanks David and Carla for a great workshop. Highly recommended

Had a fabulous workshop with David this man could not been more professional yet at the same time very friendly. He showed us some stunning lighting techniques and talked about the light and camera settings he explained it so easy so everyone understood and left the workshop thinking I could do that.

The studio had a brilliant setup plenty lights softboxes and props for the model.

We all had so much shooting time with a stunning model.

After all that we moved on to post processing with David. he showed his way of bringing the best out of a photo and wow breathtaking

And a big thank you to David’s wife for a gorgeous lunch and as much tea,coffee as any man needs

My first visit to this wonderful studio today for a workshop. There are not really enough words to describe how marvellous the day was. The venue was perfect, the model more than perfect, the tuition and guidance was clear, instructional and informative and the food was just nom nom nom. If you get chance to do one of the workshops here, I would say do so and you will not be disappointed. The day went far to quick and there was so much more we could have done. But we all left we loads of useful info that we can use and apply to our own images and editing processes. David is certainly the man to go to at his delightful studio if you want a fun day where you will learn lots a bout lighting, photoshop and editing. Thoroughly recommended.
