a rather lovely water spider , quite big , just about the size of small dinner plate , these spiders are compleatly nocturnal , I took this at about two in the morning , she was on a log in a small river by our camp , had to wade into the middle of the river to take this ,

these spiders feed in an interesting way , they sit on a log by the waters edge with their two long front legs just gently touching the surface of the water , feeling for any ripples , when the movement gets close they dive through the surface of the water and catch whatever was making the disturbance , aquatic insects or small fishes , upper river Uaupes , Amazon.
