Had a great evening yesterday with Dave at Zan.

Much has been said in the posts regarding Dave the photographer, well he did take a couple of shots of me but my modelling career was short lived (about 5 minutes). I would like to write about Dave the tutor.

Back in April this year I met up with Dave at Zan Studio for an introductory short course in lighting and studio photography. This resulted in some studio sessions at Zan with some fantastic models, and images that have received positive comments, this has been using continuos lighting.

Sunday I met with Dave for a lighting workshop based on flash photography. Dave is very knowledgable, highly skilled and a master of his craft. In our couple of hours together he shared a wealth of knowledge and experience covering technical aspects of flash photography and camera settings, positioning of lighting in respect of the model (the very patient KarenR). Special lighting effects produced by using lights and camera settings. He even covered medical aspects, flash induced epilepsy!

Apart from the theoretical knowledge, each setup and discussion point was backed up by practical sessions taking and comparing images to demonstrate the issue under discussion. We produced some superb photographs.

His skills as a photographer and a tutor are fantastic! He explained each and every point in a manner that a novice like me could fully understand. If I can only remember a fraction of that which we went through my images and creativity will improve immensely.

Wait for it...

Yes Dave actually yes ACTUALLY had time to get his camera out and shoot the odd image on Monday, when we were shooting on location in the southern area of the Lake District.

Dave is always running around making sure everyone is having a great time on these shoots and very rarely gets the thanks that he deserves. However on this occasion, in the middle of climbing up rocks, keeping watch and removing branches and stones that were in the way, not to mention driving everyone around... he also captured some fabulous images.

He is great a seeing a shot and setting the scene. And as a result the images he produces are great.

It is always a pleasure to work with him and to hear his shoot location ideas and to hopefully put them into practice.

He is as always very recommended by me. A true professional.

I shot with Dave at Zan studios last week. What a delight! He kindly picked me up from Baguely and drove us up to the studio. He's never short of stories to tell and was a bubbly character from beginning to end... Dave has great dancing skills in the studio as well as camera skills of course lol. Brilliant to get along with and great company. He really did look after me and I felt comfortable throughout. His lighting set up was spot on that even the unedited image he put straight up with I was super impressed with.

I really look forward to working with Dave again soon.

On Saturday it finally happened - Dave actually managed to shoot me! Yes I know he has received a reference off me previously, but I didn't realise how long ago that was and how much time flies.

I have actually known Dave for many years now, since 2007 and we have been shooting with one another since then. Although he is a fantastic photographer, he is actually more a friend than a colleague. But this reference refers to the fact that after several months, we actually managed to shoot together, and in my opinion and I'm sure he would agree, we achieved some great images.

I have always found Dave one of the easiest people to work with, even back when we first started shooting together. He's friendly, thinks about every shot and excels in headshots!

I just hope we will get the chance to work again together soon, on a one to one.

Dave organized an evening group shoot at Zan studio for me on my trip up North... great communications and very easy to work with. We had a car journey to get to know and I quickly realized that Dave is probably a bit of a legend... he's very informed about all sorts but not the ego to go with it...I bet everyone loves Dave. I would even consider making the 6 hour trip up North again for him and the guys! Thanks so much:>)
