As a nature photographer with several years experience and publications in magazines, such as BBC Wildlife and Birdwatching and books such as The Great British Wildlife Hunt, I decided I needed to learn more about flash photography to come up with new ideas. The easiest way to learn about flash, is to practice, so I started doing some portrait photography a few years ago (although I have done some ad hoc portraits, mainly candid, prior to that). I was surprised to find that I enjoyed doing it and have been involved in some quite ambitious group shoots since. My portraiture has been published on book covers and in magazines.
I have experience in shooting environmental portraits, as well as beauty shoots in a studio and outdoors and more traditionally-styled portraiture. Coming from a nature photography background, my preference is for using natural light, but recognise that flash is just as important to get the all important shot. I would like to shoot some more environmental portraits and would also be interested in collaborations with models for commercial/stock shoots that could be used in advertising, which would be mutually beneficial. I regularly submit photographs to Alamy and Imagebroker, so have access to licencing options for any advertising shoots, subject to appropriate model releases. I also submit to Redbubble and other similar sites, which are more for the sale of prints and other products. I am willing to try out any form of photography.
Please note, that my aim is to build up a stock portfolio and I have successfully published images taken through PP in a magazine and book cover. In most cases, I prefer to work on a collaborative basis, where we can both benefit, through a share of licence fees. However, I will consider paying for a shoot if I feel I can benefit in other ways (such as experience or creativity). Please don't be surprised if I suggest the signing of a model release, ultimately, the aim is to protect all collaborators, not to take advantage. If this bothers you, then please say so. Whatever the arrangement, I will often supply images to the model (and make-up artist/stylist if there is one) if asked, to help build up portfolios. Also, if there are certain shots or certain sites where you would not like to be displayed, then please say so in advance. I will always welcome suggestions to work on collaborative projects, please contact me with any ideas for consideration.
