Calendar

I'm a hobbyist photographer working almost exclusively with film. I like to think I bring a unique style to a shoot, which has a character very different from digital photography, capturing a model's more human side with a certain charm that only film can provide.

What I love
Using vintage equipment and a variety of film types to capture different moods. Specifically, I like:

A variety of cameras

Depending on my plans for a shoot, I might turn up with...

  • 1990s-era film SLRs
  • My favourite camera: a 1950s Halina 35x
  • A standard DSLR (just in case of a film disaster!)
  • Occasionally a 1919 Kodak Brownie Box

Different types of film

As I think about what I'd like to create, I'll choose a variety of different films, each of which gives a different "look". This might include...

  •  A mix of colour and black & white
  • "Fresh" portrait films like Kodak Portra and Ektar
  • Expired films for that vintage look
  • "Alternative" films with a unique style such as Lomography Metropolis and push-processed Kodak Colorplus

Locations

I like to shoot in...

  • A range of location types, from pretty country gardens to urban cityscapes
  • Studios with strong lighting, interesting objects and a range of backdrops
  • Anything quirky and different

I drive, so out-of-the-way locations aren't a problem for me.

What I try to minimise
I'm not a fan of over-processing photos - I prefer the natural look. If you look through my portfolio, most are straight from the camera. However, from time to time I will employ a bit of post-processing to create a particular effect for the art. This is always specified in the photo notes.

What I'm looking for
I'm always trying to push the boundaries of my style for model photography. I'm interested in working with anyone who can add to my portfolio and share their experience with me. I enjoy working with models who come with ideas but I also have plenty of my own input. I'm most happy collaborating with models to create something we've both had input on.

I am interested in TFP collaborations but also happy to pay models a couple of times a year if it's something new and/or interesting.

Levels
I particularly enjoy creating photos which are sexy, in an under-stated way. For example, see-through tops, concealed/implied nude, and photos where there's just a little nudity (like just a glimpse of a nipple when the model is generally wearing clothes).

I've not yet done anything beyond this, and I'd be interested in shooting a proper art nude session, particularly using black & white films, strong lights and shadows.

Anything else?
On my "wish list" are:

  • An urban shoot with some sexy outfits (and a discreet location)
  • Something in a forest on a sunny day with light coming through the leaves of the trees
  • A proper vintage shoot - outdoors, period costumes, black and white only, something which genuinely looks like it was shot over a hundred years ago... perhaps with a modern twist on some photos.

I travel occasionally for work and I like to squeeze a shoot in to fill an evening in the area.
