When The Sun Conspires Against You...

When shooting a theatre company's rehearsals in hall with skylights, the sun threatened to kill the shots but turned out to be my friend. I was looking for a way of highlighting the star when I noticed that the chorus girl (right of centre) had a white T shirt making a great reflector...the rest was a matter of timing.
Technicals: Often spot colour doesn't work but it's effective if you are subtle about it. The star was very petite and I needed to make her stand out. I made two layers, one as a warm tone black and white (brown and white rather than sepia)and another colour layer. Using masking I was able to brush round the star performer using a large soft brush so the colour gradually blends into the warm tone black and white.
