If you can, try to push your doctor to go with the Moh's procedure. I know medical practices are different in other parts of the world. I had a BCC about the size of a pea in diameter on my temple 2 years ago, the Mohs procedure put hole in my face the size of cherry. They closed it up and I had stitches from the corner of my eye all the way to my ear. 2 years later and there is barely a scar left. Most dermatologists usually to the Mohs for anything on the face, at least here they do.

Hoping for the best outcome for you!

My mother and I both had surgery within a week of each other at different hospitals a couple of years ago for BCC. Key points are its the ‘best’ cancer in the sense it has the least serious implications. The op is under local anaesthetic and doesn’t take long - mine was on my shoulder and mum’s on her face. They do a biopsy on the tissue removed to confirm if it was cancerous and let you know by letter after and generally speaking that’s it. The scar very much depends on the size of what ever they are removing - in my case it had been left for several years because whenever I asked GPs about it they said it was nothing to worry about, when I moved to the Cotswolds and got a new GP I mentioned it and he took photos and sent them off which lead to a review by a skin cancer specialist at Gloucester General and subsequently the surgery. By the time of the surgery it was about 12mm across and they need to take some surrounding tissue to make sure they had all the potentially affected area. Stitches were out after a week and the scar has since healed nicely (as did my mum’s on her face) leaving very little noticeable unless you are up close and even then it’s negligible.

Good luck!
