PatrickVisser - Thank you for your comment. I'll have a better idea of how she is once we've collected her from the vet. We've not seen her since Monday! :(

That's good to hear do a little ball python breeding sadly lost 2 this month that time of the year with hatclings not making it

Best advice is to get one insured then if ever one gets sick you can take in works untill you get a problem that needs further treatment then you have to insure another snake to cover bases

Hey John,

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your hatchlings but thankfully my Slash's eggs were infertile. She's a beloved pet (and world famous supermodel :P) that we don't ever intend on breeding from. I have looked into insurance but I obviously could not take anything out whilst we were aware that she had a problem. She's recovering well and I'm administering anti-biotics everyday which she is taking like a trooper. The old girl is 11/12 now and we believed that she was a male until now. This is the first time she has ever laid eggs or ever needed medical attention but for the sake of £10 a month it is worth insuring her once she's recovered. :)

My next post to follow may not appeal to the majority of people here but as a snake enthusiast I believe that you might find it interesting.

Careful ... what you are advocating is actually insurance fraud 😏

UPDATE : Slash has come home just in time for Valentines Day and is looking good even though she is still a bit groggy from sedation. The x-rays were difficult to read as the eggs looked very vague and fuzzy and it was initially thought by the 2 vets that read them that she had 1 or 2 eggbound eggs but probing found that there were in fact 7. This means that Slash passed a total of 14 eggs which is pretty impressive for a snake who has never done this before in her life.

The reddish egg on the bottom right is the culprit of all our problems. It had begun to calcify and attach to neighbouring eggs which is what formed the blockage that prevented the other eggs from passing. The 7th egg that you can see on the top left had managed to push its way into Slash's colon.

Slash is getting perkier every day but it will be a week until she doesn't need antibiotics anymore. She's happy to be back in her own home and is enjoying some well deserved rest.

On the right is of our thank you card that was gratefully received and proudly displayed by Nine Lives Veterinary Practice in Redbourne (fantastic image taken by Tony Brown and beautifully made on MoonPig).

Slash's GoFundMe is doing really well and our target is now far lower and more realistic after Nine Lives Vets were able to offer us the treatment at a lower price than where we were initially referred to. Thanks to the generosity of friends and PurplePort we have already raised £135 on GoFundMe, £25 in cash and £50 sent for a photoshoot via online banking, meaning that we have so far managed to raise £210.

If you would like to make a donation towards Slashs's treatment then please visit her GoFundMe page.
On the 7th of April I will be hosting a fundraising photoshoot & party where I will be joined by Hagrid the 11ft Burmese python and showing off my younglings. Everybody is welcome to join us and celebrate Slash's successful treatment! Out in the garden the other half will be treating to attendees to some air rifle shooting!
