On a shoot with a model(s) what are your main lens(es) that you use ??

Everyone,

As well as model photography , I shoot architecture , street scenes and I have done a few weddings.

But when I do a model shoot at a studio or location my main lenses are a 24mm F1.4, 50mm F1.4 and an 85mm F1.8.

My two main cameras are a Nikon D780 and a Nikon Z6ii. Plus I have Nikon D750 and D700 as back up.

When you do a shoot with a model(s) at a studio or location, what do you use ??

Nifty fifty wherever possible.

Or if I'm in a smaller space, I'll use the kit zoom. The drawback with that lens is that if it's used wide it only goes to f3.5, and that's not enough to throw an intrusive background out of focus.

They're the only two lenses that I've got.

Sigma 35mm, canon 85mm and very often (because I'm lazy!) Canon 40mm pancake lens has given some brilliant results that are a little different.

On location, I primarily use a Nikon Z6ii with 85mm 1.4 via the FTZ mount and Z 24-70 f4 for wider shots.

In the Studio, I use a Sigma 35mm F1.4 Art DG.

Really, it depends greatly on what I’m trying to capture in the image. I always try to have a picture and plan in mind, which ultimately defines my choice for me.

The most expensive lenses in the world can still take a bad picture if used in wrong way or place..

Studio: 12-32mm Lumix 'Vario' pancake or sometimes Tamron 14-150mm, depending on what and where.

I also have a prime Lumix 20mm f1.7 I use for street, and crate-load of old MF glass I use for sundry purposes I won't bore everyone with here. :-)

NB I shoot µ4/3, so my lenses are ½ the focal length they would be if shooting 135.

50 1.8 where possible. More often 35 1.8 & if wider is needed I've an 18-200 zoom, but it's slow in many instances.

I'm shooting on a crop sensor.

A Tamron 28-70 f2.8 on a Nikon z7ii. That lens never comes off as it gives me the versatility for everything I shoot. But saying that my wife always uses the Nikon 50mm 1.8 on the same camera which she swears by (albeit never shoots wide open) !

Mainly a 24-70 f2.8 or 85mm 1.8 for me.

Either my kit 18-55mm stock lens or my 35mm/50mm prime lenses.

Mainly 85mm. Sometimes 24-70mm

Indoors, 35mm and outdoors 50mm. Almost all the time. Experimented with a 24mm indoors for a short while, I didn’t like it very much.

Like all these questions, it entirely depends on what I'm doing!  The 24-70mm f2.8L is my goto lens, but I might also use the 50mm f1.2L or 85mm f1.2L, or 70-200mm f.2.8L, or ...

On my Canon 5DSR in studio 24-105L. In my tiny space I need flexibility. Fujifilm XE4 on location 18-50.

In order of usage 85/1.4, 135/1.8, 50/1.8, 35/1.4

I’m in the Nikon 70-200 f2.8 camp, even indoors if I have room but failing that 24-70f2.8.
