Be honest- Do you love your own photography?

Orson Carter you have mentioned the phrase excellent several times but that on it's own is not something I'd ever consider. There are probably 1000s of models who would look amazing if I shot them at a bespoke venue in a ballgown, but as I have zero interest that makes their abilities irrelevant.
As a closer to home example, my who style involves posed to look unposed which is very hard to do properly and more akin to acting to a brief.
There are plenty of art nude models who will only pose in a non natural looking art nude style which is totally unsuitable to me. Whether they are brilliant or not to someone else is irrelevant to me
This is exactly my thoughts too. You explained it far better than myself.

I'm...not surprised by this. I'm not sure where things fell down for yourself tho.

The lay of the land, here on PP has changed. Of course there will be trends in terms of styles of photography and models and I am obviously not the style that's attractive to many models nowadays. I do get success from ig, where I have a much more fashion led following. PP can sometimes feel like a clique among a small section of creatives who always gets FPIs, so they get more exposure and therefore more traffic going their way. For a vast amount of the other creatives, the cycle of not having exposure leads to potential models preferring more popular photographers.

IG is good for me, because I have worked real hard at following certain accounts, steered the algorithms to show me mainly fashion and I have met( in real life as well as just on the platform )some frickin' amazing folks on there, including some famous models and photographers from the 70s to the 90s. I had David Bailey's son contact me on IG to shoot. His image is on my port here. I am not gloating, but I do find that I get far more respect on there. I use PP because there are some Gems of talents here, but it's not easy to find them.

Interesting way of thinking. Personally if I believe more models feel this way, it makes the imposter syndrome from a few photographers on here very understandable.

I don't quite understand what you mean.

Just sounds like (to me) most of the photographers aren't worth their salt, if there's only a few gems.

I think you may have it confused?
Imposter syndrome tends to be a female problem. Actually, genuinely.
I see it quite often with brilliant female medical scientists, who just have no idea how great they are at their job.
The male equivalent is Dunning-Kruger syndrome, where one thinks one is brilliant, but one is actually so crap that one has no idea how little one knows…. There is a bit of that about.

Exactly this. The good stuff is really, really good. But it’s not often in the FPIs and the recent images are .. um .. varied.
I make photos for lots of reasons.
Whatever the reason on any given day I want everyone to enjoy the shoot and to be proud of the results.

I answered that as me the photographer, looking for models.
PP has a very wide spectrum of talents and there are some that are objectively fantastic, some that are great, some are competent and some that are not possessing the skills to model. This applies to Photographers as well.
This is life. Everyone cannot be great. I have my requirements for models that are just my requirements. I don't shoot with everyone that may want to shoot with me, whether they are fabulous or not. It's not a personal diss on the model and the model should not be affected by my decisions.
I always remember a workshop that my model agency sent me to. It was a casting director, who talked about the casting process. We were told that if we are not selected, then it's just that they need something specific and never to take it personally; to walk out the door and forget about the casting, unless we get a call from our agent to confirm booking.
It's been lifesaving advice in an industry that's subjective in it's nature.
There are many Fabulous models here that I wanted to shoot with. They feel I'm not good enough and that's fine. They know what they need in an image and I'm not it. 🙏🏽

I respect what you are saying but in defence of those, including myself who do not class themselves as models but love it... Not everyone can be the ideal model, young, thin, very attractive with a beautiful body and the ability to pose naturally at will. For me modelling is an escape from the stress of work and it helped me get through lockdown and life changing events since then.
I have been too busy with work and other commitments to look after myself, never had time to eat well, or work out (mainly because of spinal issues and 10 years of pain killers), or look after my hair and skin and my weight gain in my 40's was something to behold. My modelling isn't great and I know it, but it is great fun for me and without it I would be a lesser me for it.
In July this year I was tired of having to light a fire under my husband to go shooting only for him to say no, so I told him I needed it for my mental health, thankfully we now shoot more regularly. My photos may be not to anyone's taste and I apologise for forcing them onto an unwilling audience, but this is one of the most fun and for me rewarding things I have done.

I'm not saying that you should not model- Far from it. I welcome anyone who wants to create and it's better for all of us, but it also doesn't mean that just because you model, then I should book you. I am not sure what you thought I was trying to say 🙏🏽
