We should be helping each other, not hurting each other

Then I think your comment unfortunately got lost in translation
Obviously, yes. You got exactly the opposite of what I intended to say.
"Being stupid" targeted the "insane proposals". Unfortunately you took this generalized.
Of course paying in general (within reason) isn't stupid at all - I do it myself on a regular basis.
Please don't try to read between the lines and then judge on the basis of what you
think the imaginary text between lines sounded like.
I have never said nor implied that paid models are to be avoided,
and I have with no word claimed to have had bad experiences.
In fact I never have had bad experiences - at least not in the last 20 years.
What I did write though was an explanation of the business practice,
and I explained that without judgement, whatever it sounded to you like.
(This is no invitation to further hair splitting)
Yes, my inbox has also seen offers at excentric rate proposals by heavily
tattooed ladies who obviously didn't read my port message that I am
looking for models without ink.
So what? I said not to take it personal and I explained why this happens.
Offering understanding for this business practice and asking for a relaxed
reception towards this (don't take it personal) then escalated pretty
quickly with you.

In that case, it's surprising how you automatically leapt onto the bandwagon of negative experiences which you say you haven't experienced, rather than your personal positive experiences.. bit confusing, that.
Dude you've been teetering on the edge of that escalator for days.

Again, stop trying to read things that I never said.
I agree that you are obviously confused.
Stick to my words. Makes life easier.

TFI is an exercise of mind for the photographer. I think a useful one.
Or should be.

Marshall McLuhan would have had a field day with this thread.
Perhaps a medium could ask him.

As I read this post and the certain raving and ranting of photographers complaining of getting charged too much...
Come on guys, look at your portfolio. It says it all... You will get the best models wanting to shoot with you for whatever reasonable price you are ready to pay if they are going to 'also' benefit from the shoot with images that get them noticed and get more work.
If your portfolio is ten images of girls sitting on chairs in bad lighting - Yep EXPECT TO PAY MORE - because the model is just lending her time and presence for purely making money and expects nothing more.
I always pay models. Even if they have reached out to work with me and never asked for money. I know that is how most of them either make or supplement their life.
Stop this madness :)

Ranting and raving? Really?
I've seen a couple of photographers comment about model rates - sometimes in a firm-ish manner - but I've not seen any of the ranting and raving that you say you've seen.

Shandaz the ranting has been kept to a minimum, with the contributors and admin stemming any negatives descending into chaos.

MaristarOxley it’s been a pretty good thread. Unusual for one of this length.
Well steered on your part I think!
Some nonsense, but less than usual. :)

Whilst the forums, a place of discussion for people passionate about model photography and creativity to come together and exchange ideas and opinions should of had to potential to create some brilliant insights, it appears to of descended into wet dog poo. Slowly killed by a death of a thousand cuts by those that get offended by any talk of creativity, as we should all just shut up and shoot what we like and never talk about such things again. Finally, we have the forum we deserve, its dead, the last creative conversation was regarding the best bubble baths for model shoots. In a nutshell, the ships sailed, sank and defying logic, also went up in flames.
Meanwhile, there are still networking opportunities on PP. I think it's more a case of sifting through loads of portfolios and following those that inspire you, dropping friendly messages, etc.

Personally still I rather like the PP forums and I do not share the rather scatological analysis & resulting gloomy outlook outlined above.
Time will tell - I suppose.
