my use of a smoke machine

I have a 900W mains operated Beams 900 hazer, one Chinese no-name, Look Solutions Tiny FX and Tiny Compact battery oprated foggers, this Ulanzi toy and a Zero smoke ring blaster.

The Ulanzi is basically a vape. The tank leaked from day one and had to be replaced, and there was a callback for their batteries shortly after receiving mine.
It works, but at only 40W power rating (which I doubt is honest) the amount of smoke produced is rather modest.
Outdoor use is very limited, tabletop and stills work is more where one would use it.

The Chinese no-name requires 5 minutes pre-heat, but delivers 400W power with up to 3 hrs standby - much better for outdoor use compared to the Ulanzi, and also little over 100 quid.

The Look Solutions machines are the best regarding size and power, have won academy awards (Oscars) - but they go around one grand each.

Anything around 100 quid must be considered consumables, with a limited life expectancy.

Almost forgot, the latest Collective Vision video has just gone up and we used some dense fog and some sunlight to make a picture of Zach's brand-new satin black corner at The Kiln:-

This is pretty cool; i never thought about using it out in the sun to get lightrays through the fog.

It needs a lot of power on the fogger and works best without any wind.

The Tiny Compact delivers real 70W power, which is a lot more than one would expect
after maybe using the Ulanzi vape toy with a nominal 40W rating (never!).

This is the Chinese no-name that I also have:

https://www.ebay.de/itm/126161744670

The claimed 400W aren't five times as much as the Tiny Compact, but it is a little more powerful.
Drawbacks are weight, size and 5 minutes pre-heat time.
Positive is the high battery capacity. It shipped with a charger that had a US household plug
which on top of it was DOA. They replaced the dead one with a working copy with EU plug.

Took 4 weeks for the first shipping and then another 4 weeks for the replacement charger.

The most important thing about the Tiny FX is that you can mount it in any desired orientation.
NONE of my other foggers can do that.

Great images and advice thanks, appreciated

You're welcome. Not sure if this is of any interest to you, but it seems the FXLab fogger that has served us so well for the last eight years or so is actually still available. I'm afraid it's gone up in price a bit since we bought ours - but then, what hasn't? :-)

However at a tad under fifty five quid, I still think it's pretty good value for money. And it's not too big a proverbial bollock to drop, if you find it's not as useful as you first thought...

Amazing thank you all. And Owen, appreciated your knowledge.

I've managed to borrow one from a friend so I'll test on Saturday. I'll take your advice.

Many thanks again all

The other device you'll see around is the Smoke Ninja, which is another vape based one similar to the Ulanzi. It has the same shortcomings but is useful in its place.
