Hello everyone!
Since joining OnlyFans over a month ago, I have been inundated with questions from creatives.
(A note to admin: I have checked with the site owner prior to posting this).
I have posted a selection of popular Q&As I receive, with the aim to inform and dispel the stigma and misconceptions of showcasing Photography and Videography on OnlyFans.

General site questions:
"What is OnlyFans?"
OnlyFans is an adult multimedia sharing platform (photography, videography, audio).
It is basically an adult version of social media, whereby you can post nude, erotic and adult content (without the fear of having your work removed, suspended or banned). The interface is rather like Facebook and is very user friendly and easy to navigate. It is similar to remote shooting but much more extensive with the services offered.
"What does OnlyFans offer?"
For creators it offers a safe haven, a creative lifeline in which to showcase their work and shoot/perform remotely.
Over the COVID outbreak, OnlyFans received a 42% rise in accounts, mostly from performers such as a models, musicians, artists and adult stars who had previously been self employed and could no longer work in their face to face roles.
Creators/Artists; can choose to charge a membership fee to fans to join their page, or offer a free page (which has pay-to-view content on their feed behind a paywall for the fan to choose from at their leisure.)
Fans; It is a great way to follow someone you admire and see content that wouldn't be showcased on social media or elsewhere. As a fan you also get to know the artist on a more personal level and rather like Facebook there is a instant messaging service, so creators/artists can respond to fans in real time. The chat log is rather like Facebook and you can see when an artist is online and connect with them. You can also love and comment on the artists work.
As a fan you can commission your creator for various work, whether it be photographs, videos, music, art, merchandise and much more!
"Who uses OnlyFans?"
There are a wide range of creators to choose from- models, musicians, photographers and adult stars make up the majority of creators/artists on the platform. Presently around 65% of creators create adult content and 35% of creators do not create adult content.
Like with any platform, it is important to be respectful and to read the creators terms of use and what content they are happy to create before you contact them.
"How do I join OnlyFans?"
As a fan, you need to sign up to OnlyFans in order to follow their work. You can find this through their direct OnlyFans link which is often listed on the artists social media accounts.
Some accounts are free and others are paid membership, depending on the content offered by the creator. Sign up is very straight forward. I have a free account which may be found through my website; https://helendiaz.com/
"Why do I need to enter my card details in order to register?"
OnlyFans is an adult orientated platform. Card details are required to protect minors from viewing the content. It is a deterrent. No fees are taken from your account unless you have signed up to a paid page or you have chosen to pay for services offered there. I believe a 0.10p charge is applied to a card on sign up in order to test the cards authenticity.
I have personally registered my credit details with OnlyFans (in order to be a creator you need to so that you can be paid directly) and I have also followed other artists and purchased content from them, without any security issues.
"Can I choose not to have my card details saved?"
Yes, once signing up to the Platform, you can easily remove your card in your settings (you will not be removed from the site and you will not stop seeing the creators content).
You can also choose to add funds to your Wallet on OnlyFans, so that you don't have to keep a card active on file. This is what I personally choose to do to prevent fraud (I do this on many sites, regardless).
There is a two factor sign in process available on OnlyFans for added security available also.
OnlyFans also employ a third party payment provider, which means users can never see your card details because your payment information is not stored on OnlyFans.
"Can minors/children view the free accounts on OnlyFans?"
No. Card details are needed to register. On a free account the creator is also required to post any nude content behind a paywall on their main feed.
"Do I own the copyright to my work as a Creator/Artist on OnlyFans?"
Yes, your work posted belongs to you as a creator/artist. You can chose to add a watermark to the images and videos in your settings or you can choose not to.
"I am a photographer- can I share photographs from model shoots on OnlyFans?"
Yes, but only with the models consent. OnlyFans will need to see a release for all involved. Likewise, if you are a model and wish to share other creatives work- just ask first. If you share content without the model/artists permission, you could be permanently banned.
"How do I shop for a creator/artists merchandise on OnlyFans?"
You message the creator directly with your request, whether it be to purchase a print, artwork or other content. You then tip the amount agreed to the creator and they will prepare the order for you. OnlyFans receive 20% of this fee.
"What percentage does OnlyFans take of earnings?"
OnlyFans takes 20%. Creators/Artists receive 80% of earnings.
"I would like the creator/artist to model or to use something specific for the photograph/video/content I am commissioning them for. How can I organise this on OnlyFans?"
Many creators/artists will have an "Amazon gift list" link, which may be found within their OnlyFans bio. If you would like something specific to be added which isn't shown simply contact the creator and ask for it to be added to their gift list. You can then purchase it for the commission you are booking them for. It could be a dress, lingerie, a microphone, a camera- absolutely anything really, be creative! :)
Some creators/artists (like myself) offer free content in return for significant items on my gift list, i.e if it is an item I really would really benefit from (this is quite similar to TF).
Neither party can see payment details of Amazon gifts or personal details. The fan purchasing the gift cannot see the postal address of the creator/artist. They can often leave a gift note during the Amazon order. Otherwise, it is all anonymous.
"Can I choose to be anonymous on OnlyFans?"
As a creator/artist; you will need to provide 1 or 2 forms of ID and your banking details to Onlyfans in order to join, prove you are over 18 and to receive any earnings. This information is not shown publicly.
You can perform under any alias of your choosing. Your personal details are not available to the public. As a creator/artist you could even chose to perform anonymously (i.e without showing you face). It is completely up to you.
As a fan; you can also choose to be anonymous and upon joining the site, you are either assigned a random alias or you can choose one yourself.
"Can creators/artists see my payment details on OnlyFans?"
No they cannot. This is private. All payment details are sent through a third party. The creator/artist can only view the amount they have been paid or tipped by any particular user.
Now, for the personal questions I have been asked during my use of OnlyFans! (With added humour!)
"Helen have you lost the plot? Are you giving up modelling? Are you leaving Purpleport?"
No I haven't lost the plot due to COVID and lock down! I was already mad. How have you missed this?! 😉 Yes I still model. Yes I am still on Purpleport and mainstream freelance modelling sites.
No I haven't changed my moral compass or who I am as a person. Yes you can still work with me.
Yes, if we know each other, we are still friends.
"Why didn't you join OnlyFans earlier? Why now?"
For me, it was a real mixture of not having the time, the energy and the patience to start a brand new project. Prior to COVID and lockdown, I was extremely busy with modelling, touring and photographic events. Due to lockdown I had no choice but to change and evolve. If you don't learn to swim... you drown!
I had been meaning to join OnlyFans for a few years (I had opened an account but it wasn't active).
Being self employed, all of my modelling bookings, tours and events came to a halt as I could not be booked in person. I wanted to keep working remotely and under my own terms, so I joined OnlyFans.
"Do you offer live, remote photography shoots on Purpleport?"
I will do in the future (especially to connect with photographers abroad), but I really enjoy the 1-1 interaction with photographers (during live shoots) and fans (via OnlyFans).
With live remote shoots booked through Purpleport, my main concern is that they could be live streamed or recorded without my permission and then shared on various sites without my consent (which is particularly problematic if posing nude or being caught unaware!) It would have to be with those I trusted.
I had also been contacted by rather dubious individuals during the height of the pandemic on Purpleport (with no references) asking for this service and I was hesitant as to their intentions. Its a service that I feel could easily be abused and exploited (and I am sure it has been).
I do however think it has been an excellent tool for the genuine creatives to keep in touch and produce beautiful work during the most extraordinary circumstances. I have seen some absolutely stunning results from it!
I will offer this in the future when I have more time on my hands!
"Do you do porn on OnlyFans?"
No, I don't do porn. If I did you would be the first to know... ;)
"Are your levels changing on Purpleport and other sites?"
No. I've always modelled erotica in my personal model and photography work, I just didn't advertise it. I only produce erotica for my OnlyFans channel (this is my own project and my USP).
I work to Art Nude in my freelance work (on Purpleport and similar sites)
Shooting erotica with a a photography team takes a lot of trust and skill. To be rather crude, I don't want to end up with 100s of images of my private parts, taken from unflattering angles that I will later regret (I already have enough nudes of these over the years ;) )
"Did you "up" your levels for OnlyFans?"
No. I have always been interested in Erotica and fetish, particularly the works of Helmut Newton. I just prefer to shoot it on my own terms. I like to be in control of my own image.
"Oh Helen, you have sold yourself out I see..."
Yes, I have sold myself out. I have chosen to be self employed on another media sharing platform during a global pandemic, rather than being unemployed and claiming benefits off of our already struggling economy ;) Sharing my work on OnlyFans is no different to sharing it on Purpleport. Its just another way to remote shoot (only far more expansive with the services it offers).
"Do you produce your own work? (Do you need a photographer/videographer?)"
Yes, I produce my own photographs, videos and content. These are a mixture of professional photographs and candids. They are my own copyright. I am always happy to hear from other creatives but I am not collaborating at the moment.
"Can I use any of your work for my artworks?"
Artists are extremely welcome to use my work, but please ask first. Please credit me in the final image and link to my website and I will do the same in order to promote your work. That way we can help each other :)
"Can I screenshot images on your OnlyFans, in order to share one of your posts?"
No you cannot screenshot my images or content. It is forbidden on OnlyFans (you can get suspended or banned). Just drop me a message if you would like to share any of my images on your social media pages and I will give you the original file. It has to be with the creators consent. OnlyFans require a release otherwise.
"Would you undertake TF/collaborate for your OnlyFans channel?"
No. I shoot all of my own content at the moment. I don't undertake TF work in my freelance modelling and likewise I don't for my OnlyFans. I may collaborate in the future but I don't have any need for this at the moment.
"Can I use the images from our upcoming photo shoots on my OnlyFans photography page?"
No. Shoots booked through freelance photography websites with myself are for non commercial assignments. Please contact me if you would like to book me for a commercial assignment.
"Do you offer IRL?" (In real life)
No. This is strictly forbidden on the site for your own safety. If you organise to meet with a fan or creator you could be removed or banned. Certain keywords in relation to this are banned from the site within messages and comments (i.e "meet", "young" and "teen" are a few examples of banned words.)
To conclude:
OnlyFans is simply a platform I use to showcase my erotic photography, videos and adult comedy! I also greatly enjoy the live streams and connecting with people.
I'm a model and photographer - an eccentric mix of Bettie page and Helmut Newton inspired erotica.
I grew tired of the general social media politics and not being able to share my work on the mainstream platforms. I'm also not one for the politics. I live for pleasure!
