My name is Vasil Nanev, and I am a photographer. My journey began in Burgas, Bulgaria, but the sun-drenched shores of Nice, in southern France, have been my home for most of my life.

The spark of my love for photography ignited in my childhood. I recall the excitement surrounding the photo circles at school. Though too young to join, I eagerly awaited my older brother’s tales of the magic he witnessed there. Each story deepened my fascination and longing to capture moments myself.

My first camera was a German Beirette, a precious gift from my grandfather. I was around seven or eight years old, and that tape camera became my treasure. Photography ran in the family; my father, too, was passionate about it. His Zenith camera was a marvel of its time, and I remember vividly the process of developing photos. We washed them in special basins and let them dry—a meticulous and magical ritual that felt like part of a secret art form.

Years later, living amidst the breathtaking beauty of the French Riviera, the call of photography returned to me. I decided to heed this inner whisper, urging me to tell stories through my lens. One day, while conversing with an American couple, they asked, “You are an artist; what art do you do?” Unprepared, I answered, “Photography.” That moment crystallized my understanding of photography as my true art form.

Capturing and creating stories through my photographs became a profound joy. Each image was a puzzle, a tapestry of moments waiting to be unveiled. I spent hours meticulously refining every detail, ensuring each frame told its unique story. Nights blurred into mornings as ideas swirled in my mind, keeping me awake with excitement.

With a camera in hand, I press the shutter button to capture the next story, eager to share the beauty I see with the world. Every photograph is a narrative, a glimpse into a moment that I am privileged to witness and immortalize. Through my lens, I strive to tell the stories that connect us all, one frame at a time.
