After Man Ray.
The original image was called Le Violon d’Ingres (Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres was a French Neoclassical painter) The classic Man Ray photograph was crudely created, by drawing the f-holes onto a print and rephotographing it, but nevertheless strangely intriguing. The original title is also a French double entendre, as ‘violon’ is sometimes used to mean ‘hobby’
His subject was Kiki de Montparnasse, well known in Paris artistic circles as a muse for several famous artists, and also Man Ray’s mistress. Her birth name was Alice Prin.
We found the cello in the studio and took several images which I blended together in post. By the end of the session the instrument was well out of tune.
Title suggested by my lovely model.
