The Last Iceman

Prior to the widespread availability of electricity and mechanical refrigeration, men would take their mules and climb the Andes in the morning, up above the snow line and load them with as much ice as they could carry. They would bring the ice back down into town where it would be sold to conserve food. Next day they would do it all over again. This Ecuadorian man was the last to undertake this job in his region. He is Baltazar Ushca - the Last Iceman. I met him in Feb 2015
