Hello All,
I've always been creative. I've never been the type of person who can sit still for very long without doing something. Fortunately, my interests keep my mind sharp and my body busy.
One of those interests is photography and my passion for the subject began a long time ago when I was just a kid in school.
I attended some after school photography classes and then going onto further my studies at college. It wasn't long before I had turned my bedroom into a darkroom. There I would practically spend whole days developing black and white film and photographs spanning all kinds of subject matter. Back then it was all about 35mm film and I'd walked miles with camera in hand shooting everything in sight that captured my eye.
After I graduated from University I decided to go and work in the IT industry instead of pursuing a career in the sciences. I remained working in IT for some years. And in all that time my fascination for photography continued to burn.
My favourite subject matter is people. Pin ups, portraits and street photography I would say but I like to shoot landscapes and I dabble in astrophotography too. For me it is about capturing the moment, there is always potential for the little piece of magic that can breathe life into a photo. It's just a question of being ready with the shutter release when the time is right...and you've captured a moment in time that could last for forever.
I've always felt that if you are truly serious about the work then that passion will reflect in what you create. But it's also about having fun too and I take great satisfaction in doing what I do and when I'm working with people. It's a competitive business. There is a lot of work out there so setting yourself apart from the rest and being different is what I try to achieve. I want to create work that stands out from the crowd, that makes people stop and stare, provoking thought and emotion. I've always felt that a photo should tell a story, inspire and stir feelings just in the way music does. And this is what I want to do. I want to make people think and feel when they look at my work. If I can stop someone in their tracks when they see a photo of mine then I believe I have succeeded in my goal. I want to create photographs that are different, something that people haven't seen before. I feel you have to constantly strive to pusH yourself. Some ideas work and others don't but that's what the learning process is all about, to learn from your mistakes and look upon them as something positive to build on.
