I'm an amateur photographer, living not far from Swindon.

I have become interested in the development of photography as fine art, and want to understand what it is about an image that makes an impact.

This could be the tones and simple composition of Edward Weston's images, the striking experiments by the surrealists, or the brightness of modern fashion shots.

I want to try things out, to see if I can learn some of these techniques. I'd really like to collaborate with like-minded people, I need people to bounce ideas off, and who can offer constructive criticism.

I consider the process of creating an image to be just as important as the final result, and enjoy the surprises and 'happy accidents' that can happen. I am happiest when trying new ideas, so I'm always going to take on any suggestions. I'm not one for planning in meticulous detail, I'd rather have a few general ideas, and see what develops.

Things I'd like to try include:

• Woodland creature - feral
• Sunlight on water and skin (Lucien Clergue)
• Derelict (Francesca Woodman)
• Paint (Jackson Pollock, drips, rivulets)
• Sculptural, cassical Greek style - drapery
• Bodyscape, anonymous nude (Man Ray, Edward Weston)
• Light projection
• Helmut Newton
• Long exposure
• Cubist and/or multiexposure - Marcel Duchamp, Nude Descending a Staircase
• Infra-red, maybe with visible light
• Unexpected domestic scenes - I have a bit of a project in mind for that...
