TDLR? A short guide to working with me.

I work in a relaxed, personable manner. You will probably laugh at me, maybe with me, on a shoot.

Shoot time = shoot time. The shoot clock doesn't start until the  first shot is captured. Equally the last shot will be within our agreed time (unless we both agree overunning is desired). If you have to look at your phone, then the shoot clock stops for the duration of the unprofessional interruption. Of course emergencies don't count as unprofessional :) 

If you turn up unprepared, then the shoot clock doesn't start until you are ready.

Shoot Terms:

Pay me - enquire/explain what you require & I will quote you a reasonable price.

Content-Share - both parties get images (full commercial use)

TFP - both parties get images (only for non-commercial promotional use)

Pay the model = model gets no images (photographer has full use of images)

 

Background:

Extensive experience (I have completed more than 250 different human subject shoots)  autodidact using Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras.

Building on years of Canon, Fuji, Nikon, Olympus point and shoot photography I embarked on learning manual DSLR skills in 2008 to advance my natural interest and achieve more control of my work. This immediately paid off, a winning submission was displayed at Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon’s annual photographic competition.  

In 2009 I joined my then employer’s Photographic Society, continuing my professional development, witnessing lectures from professional photographers, participating in location shoots and achieving a prize in a Society photography competition.  

In 2010/11 I attended several paid model workshops to increase my skills, knowledge and experience in order to begin working independently. I achieved my first paid private portrait commission in July of 2011. I began shooting music events (pub gigs and outside festivals).   I added celebrity to my portfolio photographing musician The The’s Matt Johnson at the BAFTA ‘Moonbug’ premier in 2011 and former world’s strongest man turned actor Magnus Samuelsson at Nordicana and author Chuck Palahniuk at Book Slam, both 2013.  

In 2012 my photography was used in print on flyers for an exhibition by bricks and mortar Gallery@500. This gallery has also sold prints of my work.  

In 2014 I joined this website PurplePort as a photographer and have with the assistance of collaborators achieved eight Front Page Images and 184 positive references to date. In 2014 I also accepted a paid commission to photograph ‘This Is Country’ music duo, for producing promotional pictures, this included scouting and booking a studio for them.  

In 2015 photojournalism included attending Nagasaki Peace Day, Battersea Park & Jason Decaires Taylor ‘The Rising Tide’ part of Totally Thames.  

In 2016 I built upon my editing skillset by studying and achieving a Diploma in Lightroom. I had previously attained Multimedia NVQ Level 2 (Taking a brief from concept to print/web) Mac based Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, Illustrator & Photoshop (2000-2001).  

In 2017 I completed another private portrait commission, studied and attained a Wedding Photography Diploma and shot my first wedding as official photographer.  

In 2018 I achieved my first international photography print publication, of musician Gal Gabor in Hungarian ‘Music Media Magazine’ (my shots also used online at MusicMedia.Hu) Separately, my firework submission also won the Lynmouth Beachside Bonfire Bonanza Photographic Competition.  

In 2019 I joined the ethical website Lens2Print to offer prints of my work. I gained experience of photography on a cruise ship and sought and was commissioned to shoot the Lorna Doone 150th anniversary Gala for the Pleasure Dome Theatre Company (PDTC).  

In 2020 I did some editing work for Laid To Rest and shot my second wedding as official photographer before the Covid19 pandemic curtailed further physical development of my photography career. Whilst not being able to shoot I studied and attained a Photoshop Diploma.  

In 2021 I did two commissions, one private and the other publicity for a theatre company (repeat business for PDTC).  

In 2023 and 2024 I have been a photographer at numerous South West shoot socials. I added wet plate collodian photography experience this year, thanks to PPs Moo Pa.

2024 to date (October) I have completed 49 photoshoots with 26 different models, 9 of whom I have shot at least twice this year. Currently a further 4 shoots are pencilled in before 2025.
