Studio Luminescence is a beautiful natural light studio based in a stunning converted lace mill factory in the heart of Nottingham City centre. The studio boasts a number of period features including: original mill paned windows, original wood flooring and shutters in the changing / secondary shooting space.

Use of our studio also allows you access to both indoor and outdoor communal spaces in the old mill building; this includes original staircases, outdoor garden space, walled outdoor space with graffiti wall and much more.

Studio Luminescence comprises of 2 spaces:

The Main Studio

A beautiful white space, with original wood flooring that has been painted white and an original mill paned window. There is a large white painted posing block situated in the corner which can be moved and used for shoots / events.

Floor Plan:

Model Changing and Relaxation Space [with Wardrobe, Props, Backdrops & Equipment Space]

A cosy room with original mill paned window and shutters. There is a space set up specifically for model changing, with a full height mirror available. There are slippers, dressing gowns and rugs down to ensure models are comfortable during their visit. Equipment, wardrobe and backdrop storage space is also in here.

We have an array of equipment, including backdrop stands (large and T-bar), number of backdrops (paper, fabric & premium printed), lighting (3 x 200w Interfit 121 flash heads) and stands (including 1 x heavy duty C-Stand with boom arms), modifiers (including beauty dish, 'octobox' and strip box diffusers), gels and various props including a posing block.

We have access to a shared kitchen space and toilets in very close proximity within the lace mill building.

There is limited on street parking available outside the main building, though please note there is a two hour parking limit on these spaces. The closest pay and display car park is Victoria Centre, Nottingham, which is a short walk away. We are also well placed in the city should you wish to travel by bus, tram or train.

Studio Luminescence is a vegan studio so we do not routinely stock animal products (such as cow’s milk) for refreshments but trust us when we say oat barista milk is delicious! That being said, if you want to bring your own dairy milk for your hot drinks, you can do so.

Does Studio Luminescence offer Studio Hire?

The short answer here is no - typically we do not hire out our Studio space.

There have been instances where we have been able to hire out our space for an hour or two here and there around client bookings and events. This is not something we are generally able to do around other business commitments as we are not at Studio Luminescence on a daily basis. As such, we have recently removed our studio hire option for general bookings. Studio hire is offered out very rarely on a situational basis, in these instances, we will discuss the requirements and costings individually.

- Studio Luminescence proudly puts learning and development at the heart of everything we offer. We aim to provide a range of tuition packages suitable for a variety of skills sets - from beginner to more experienced - we'll be the first to admit - there's always something new to learn and experiment within the art that is photography!

- We offer learning packages in: lighting [both studio & natural], working cooperatively with models, set design, photoshop editing & more.

Practical Photography

- Private 1 to 1 tuition designed around you. We tailor our learning packages to make them unique for each user to allow for the very best opportunities for you to develop and learn on your photography journey. We will always be honest as to what expertise we can offer and provide managed learning packages so as not to overwhelm you in a single session. Photography is fun and an expression of you and your creativity - we believe learning photography should be the same!

Editing and Post-Processing

Photoshop Tuition:

Beginner Editing / Post-processing - simple workflow from RAW to finished edit - including skin correction / retouching, tips and tricks to keep images naturally beautiful, basic balancing [exposure, shadows, highlights etc]
[suitable for those with little to no experience of using Photoshop/Lightroom beyond presets and/or pre-defined actions]
Colour Grading - an introduction to colour theory, adjustment layers and their functionality - effective use of colours to enhance an image beyond the captured colours, designed to compliment the image and make it stand out

Booking Terms & Conditions

Bookings Requiring a Deposit

In the instance that a deposit is requested in order to book a place on event, it will be approximately 50% of the total event fee. This deposit is non-refundable* and is required to secure your booking and prevents events becoming unviable in the event of a no-show.

Late Cancellation Fees for Bookings or Events

Whilst we understand that there will always be unexpected circumstances that may prevent your attendance following a confirmed booking, we do run a late cancellation policy. This policy applies to events that the studio hosts, as well as studio hire. We hope that you understand that any cancellations of 72hrs or less significantly reduces the likelihood of us being able to resell any slot that you had confirmed. As such any cancellations of 72hrs or less will incur a charge of the full agreed booking fee.

If we need to cancel an event or booking then your deposit/full payment will be returned in full.

Upon booking with us, you agree to these terms and conditions. If these are not adhered to in the event of a cancellation, we reserve the right to refuse further bookings from such parties in the future.

* Deposit refunds are at our discretion, considered on an individual basis - generally deposits are non-refundable in order to prevent financial loss.

Hello, we're Gary and Lauren - a husband & wife team and directors of Studio Luminescence.
We aim to provide the very best service and comforts we can to our visitors through our combined experience in the industry and further afield.

Lauren has been modelling for the last 13 years & photographing for over 10 years, with a fine art degree and ongoing masters in photography. You can find Lauren here on PP at - Arabella & Lauren Swinn Photography
Gary has a history of working in the education and public services sectors, as a result of his career choices it's said that he can make a decent brew..!

What We Stand For

We proudly run an inclusive, respectful space that welcomes models and photographers from all backgrounds with any level of experience. We kindly ask that you take a quick look at the guidelines below before working with us and models within the studio:

The changing area is a private space for the model; please don’t enter unless you have been invited to do so by the model.
Please respect the levels you have agreed to work to with the model prior to attendance, we do not condone level pushing or pressuring a model to work outside their comfort zones.
Keep it professional and courteous, please don’t make sexually inappropriate or derogatory comments towards anyone else using the studio.
Do not touch the model without asking & their permission.
The studio must be used respectfully, if you break something please let us know.
